THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Software Engineer, you will help design, build, and deliver technology solutions that support BCI's investment and business operations. Working alongside developers, architects, analysts, and business partners, you will contribute to impactful projects while growing your technical expertise and career at BCI.

This fixed-term opportunity includes extended health and dental benefits from day one, participation in BCI's performance-based incentive plan, and a defined benefit pension plan.

This role is based in BCI's Victoria or Vancouver office and may be filled at the Software Engineer I or Software Engineer II level, depending on the successful applicant's skills, experience, and qualifications.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will join BCI's Technology department, reporting to the Senior Manager, Technology Solutions.

The Technology department partners across BCI to deliver secure, reliable, and innovative solutions that support investment and business operations. Working closely with developers, architects, analysts, and business partners across the organization, you will solve complex technical challenges, contribute to meaningful projects, and continue building your technical expertise at BCI.

WHAT YOU BRING

The qualifications below reflect the Software Engineer II level and may vary based on the level of the successful applicant.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, or a related field

  • Software development experience (1+ years for Software Engineer I; 5+ years for Software Engineer II)

  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum and/or Kanban) and applying DevOps practices

  • Proficiency with modern development technologies such as .NET, C#, Python, JavaScript, Angular, HTML5, and CSS3

  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, issue tracking, and software lifecycle management tools

  • Experience supporting solutions in cloud environments such as Azure or AWS

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders and explain technical concepts clearly

  • Professional certifications in Agile, Microsoft, Azure, or related technologies are an asset

  • Experience with AI, intelligent automation, or emerging technologies is an asset

  • Knowledge of the investment management industry is an asset

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The responsibilities below reflect the Software Engineer II level and may vary in scope, complexity, stakeholder engagement, and autonomy based on the level of the successful applicant.

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs, define requirements, and deliver solutions that create business value

  • Present technical concepts, solutions, and recommendations clearly to support strong partnerships and successful outcomes

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable software applications across the full development lifecycle

  • Build and maintain automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based solutions using Agile and DevOps practices

  • Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system performance, reliability, and security

  • Evaluate and apply emerging technologies, including AI and intelligent automation, to enhance business capabilities and user experiences

  • Contribute to solution design, technical roadmaps, and BCI's architecture and engineering standards

  • Collaborate with peers through code reviews and knowledge sharing to promote engineering excellence

  • Identify risks and delivery barriers and help drive successful project outcomes

  • Maintain technical documentation and support stakeholders through implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing enhancements

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

This role can be based in either our Victoria or Vancouver office. Relocation support within Canada is available if needed. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.

SALARY RANGE

The annualized base salary range for the Software Engineer I role is CAD $93,000 to $110,000.

For the Software Engineer II role, the range is CAD $106,000 to $128,000.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
