The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Technical Training Instructor and first-level supervisor providing planning and direction to, organizing work for, and exercising control over assigned nonsupervisory subordinate employees.Qualifications:Conditions of employment continued:
  • Work is performed in a classroom environment that involves everyday risks and common safety precautions. Work may at times require long periods of standing (up to 6 hrs. per day), moderate lifting and carrying ability (up to 50 lbs.), a clear, intelligible, speaking voice for instructing students, and ability to hear (with or without aids).
  • A pre-employment physical will be required
  • All faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of College and Schools, Commission of Colleges (SACSCOC, i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria. The degree should be in the teaching discipline. If the degree is not in the teaching discipline, the faculty member must have documented experience, course work, and/or other training in the teaching discipline.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712 + IOR.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
*** THIS IS A CCAF POSITION ***For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. accreditation criteria.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
OR
EDUCATION:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., (if related) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest
  2. Knowledge of Cyber Transport at a practical level to include sustaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and deploying network infrastructure systems.
  3. Knowledge of Air Force technical training administration, policies and procedures to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.
  4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulation, practices, and procedures.
  5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Education:IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: If position has a positive degree requirement or education forms the basis for qualifications, you MUST submit transcriptswith the application. Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; however, if position has a positive degree requirement, qualifying based on education alone or in combination with experience, transcripts must be verified prior to appointment.
