Description

COMPUTATIONAL SCIENTIST University of Alabama at Birmingham

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine seeks to hire Computational Scientist. We are seeking a candidate with proven expertise in both frontend and backend web development, particularly in Python. The Computational Scientist will play a crucial role in developing innovative computational methods and providing solutions that leverage a variety of techniques, including mathematical theories and engineering principles. This position will also involve collaboration with team members to address complex challenges effectively.

Collaborates in problem assessment, analysis, and development of computational methods or procedures, independently evaluates, selects, and applies appropriate methods to the specific research problems.

Proposes solutions in engineering, the sciences, and other fields using mathematical theories and techniques.

Optimizes and extends algorithms, analysis pipelines, and software in order to establish and ensure effectiveness and scalability of computing infrastructure.

Provides consultation for and expertise with computer applications to complex research problems; performs computerized data processing operations and statistical analyses of research data; creates visualizations of results.

Performs code review, analysis review, and writes summary reports to collaborators.

Prepares figures for publication and helps to write manuscripts.

Presents results internally and to collaborators and other groups.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Develop computational methods and effectively resolve research problems utilizing multiple scientific methodologies.

Partner with colleagues to address complex issues through evaluation and problem assessment.

Conduct advanced research in computational science, including developing new algorithms, models, or simulations to address complex scientific problems.

Enhance and expand algorithms and software to guarantee efficiency and provide consulting services regarding computer applications

Perform computerized data processing, conduct analysis and reviews, and generate reports to present pertinent information to various groups.

Provide technical support and expertise in computational modeling and simulation tools to other researchers and departments.

Perform other duties as assigned

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed

Ability to troubleshoot problems and construct solutions

Ability to analyze, interpret and display statistical data

Thorough knowledge of organization or research specific computer application programs
