Your Opportunity
Stantec's Texas Transportation team is seeking a Construction and Bridge Inspection Technician or Engineer to support our Bridge and Roadway Construction Inspection Team. You will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA/QC, construction oversight and report client-required documentation on various roadway construction and/or reconstruction projects. The current project need is located in the North Fort Worth area, with future projects potentially throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. This position will also entail inspection of bridges, tunnels and bridge class culverts on highways throughout Texas and the United States according to:
  • National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), 23 CFR Part 650 Subpart C.
  • Inspection of Fracture Critical Bridge Members (Report No. FHWA-IP-86-26).
  • AASHTO Manual for Bridge Element Inspection.
  • Recording and Coding Guide for the Structure Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation's Bridges.
  • Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI).

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and review projects during construction to monitor conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations during construction.
  • Generate reports of conditions found during inspection activities, notify Construction Management of significant problems, and completes documentation necessary to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities.
  • Inspect installation and placement of asphalt, run density tests, and calculate quantities and costs. Inspect installation of construction features, measure dimensions, and calculate quantities.
  • Examine construction materials, checking to see if they meet specifications.
  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC oversight).
  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.
  • Be able to utilize a Stantec assigned tablet and computer to document inspections per the client's needs.
  • Responsible for assisting our Bridge/Tunnel Inspection Team Leads perform inspections in the field, entry of field data in into specialized software, entry of data into Microsoft Word/Excel/Access and Bentley's AssetWise, assembly of reports and other documents.
  • Tracking, scheduling, performing, and assisting with in-service inspections.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Be a detailed oriented and highly organized individual demonstrating initiative and commitment.
  • Strong math, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced in Microsoft computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Out of town travel for inspections will average one to two weeks a month but may be longer during summer months.
  • Works well in a team environment in both field and office assignments with the ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Able to withstand high levels of physical exertion including walking, climbing, bending, carrying, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
  • Effectively communicates project issues with contractor, project team, and clients.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec you will be required to pass a pre-employment Drug/Alcohol screening.
  • A team player who strives to provide quality work and meet project needs.

Required Education and Experience
  • An associate's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in field engineering and/or construction.

Beneficial Experience
  • Familiarity with structural systems, members and forces.
  • Experience with materials and deterioration of concrete, steel, and timber.
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation drafting experience is a plus.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
