Position: Carpenter (Forms Carpenter)

Reports to: Foreman or Superintendent

Job Type: Full-time, Union

Job Summary:

The Carpenter supports heavy civil construction projects by building, installing, and repairing wooden and concrete formwork, structures, and frameworks used in bridges, roadways, and other infrastructure. This role is responsible for reading plans, measuring and cutting materials, assembling formwork, and ensuring accuracy and quality in construction. Carpenters play a vital part in creating safe, durable structures while working closely with project teams to meet specifications and deadlines.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

ยท Build wood and metal forms for the construction of concrete structures, footings, slabs, walls, beams, and columns per specifications.

ยท Set up and secure forms at correct location; leveling ground, ensuring forms are stable and aligned, and reinforcing to withstand concrete pressure.

ยท Maintain and repair forms between uses to extend lifespan and maintain safety standards.

ยท Dismantle, clean, store or dispose of forms after use.

ยท Use hand tools, power tools and measuring tools to perform work.

ยท Adhere to and promote safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team.

ยท Identify and report potential safety hazards, concerns, or incidents immediately.

ยท Communicate and work with team members to coordinate tasks and maintain a productive work environment.

ยท Regular and punctual attendance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

ยท Experience as a carpenter on heavy civil construction projects (preferred).

ยท Understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.

ยท Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers).

ยท OSHA 10 certification.

ยท Ability and willingness to work at heights and outdoors in various weather conditions.

ยท Ability to walk, stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, climb, work in challenging environments and on uneven surfaces, and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 pounds).

ยท Ability to remain alert and see, hear, and respond to team members and the surrounding environment in highly safety sensitive working conditions and near large heavy civil equipment and/or live traffic.

ยท High school diploma or equivalent.

ยท Excellent teamwork, communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

ยท Reliable transportation to and from construction sites.
