A Bricklayer Journeyman is responsible for building and repairing structures made of brick, stone, and other materials, ensuring quality craftsmanship and adherence to safety standards.Role and Responsibilities
  • Lay and install bricks, blocks, stone, and other masonry materials according to blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Prepare and clean surfaces, ensuring proper bonding materials and techniques are used for all installations.
  • Measure and cut materials to fit project requirements, ensuring precision and accuracy in all aspects of the work.
  • Mix and apply mortar, grout, and other bonding agents to secure masonry materials in place.
  • Work with a variety of masonry materials, including brick, stone, concrete blocks, and cultured stone, ensuring correct installation and finishing.
  • Ensure that all work complies with safety codes, building codes, and project specifications.
  • Repair and maintain masonry structures, including patching, re-pointing, and replacing damaged materials.
  • Assist in the installation of decorative masonry elements, such as arches, columns, and veneers.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Work alongside other trades and contractors to ensure the timely and successful completion of projects.
  • Maintain and care for tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, disposing of waste materials properly.
  • Keep track of materials used and report inventory needs to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as required by the foreman or project manager.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or journeyman program in bricklaying or masonry.
  • 5+ years of experience as a bricklayer or mason in a construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of masonry techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and project specifications.
  • Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and laying masonry materials with precision.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and best practices in bricklaying.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and on time.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot on-site issues.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification or additional training in masonry or construction safety (e.g., OSHA).
  • Experience with specialized masonry techniques or decorative bricklaying.
  • Familiarity with construction management software or tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is primarily performed on construction job sites, exposed to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
  • Some physical labor is required, including lifting and carrying materials, as well as climbing and working at heights.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

    The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
