Job description

The Bricklayer performs skilled masonry work on commercial construction projects, laying brick, block, and stone to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures according to blueprints and specifications. This hands-on position requires expert craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a masonry crew while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.

  • Lay brick, concrete block, and stone to build walls, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys, and other masonry structures
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and material requirements
  • Mix mortar to proper consistency and apply to bricks and blocks using trowels
  • Measure distances and mark reference lines on working surfaces using levels, plumb bobs, squares, and laser levels
  • Cut bricks and blocks to size using masonry saws, chisels, and hand tools
  • Install reinforcement materials including rebar, wire mesh, and wall ties as specified
  • Construct corners, leads, and closures with precision and proper bonding patterns
  • Quality & Productivity
  • Maintain consistent joint width, alignment, plumb, and level throughout all work
  • Meet daily production targets of 450500 bricks per day or 100+ blocks per day while maintaining quality standards
  • Clean and finish mortar joints using jointing tools to achieve specified appearance
  • Inspect completed work for quality and make corrections as needed
  • Minimize material waste through efficient cutting and planning
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and sitespecific safety requirements
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and accidents immediately to foreman
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Teamwork & Communication
  • Work cooperatively with foremen, fellow masons, laborers, and other trades on site
  • Communicate effectively about work progress, material needs, and potential issues
  • Assist with training and mentoring apprentices and less experienced workers when assigned
  • Follow directions from foreman and superintendent regarding daily work assignments
  • Required Qualifications

    Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a bricklayer in commercial or residential construction
  • Demonstrated proficiency laying brick and block with consistent quality
  • Knowledge of various brick bonds (running, common, Flemish, stack)
  • Experience mixing and working with various mortar types
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating material quantities
  • Tools & Equipment
  • Must provide own hand tools including trowels, levels, jointers, line blocks, and measuring tools
  • Proficiency using masonry saws, grinders, and power tools
  • Experience working from scaffolding (tube and frame, Hydro Mobile)
  • Licenses & Authorization
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • OSHA 10hour certification required (or must obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
  • 5+ years of commercial masonry experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • NCCER Masonry certification or completion of apprenticeship program
  • Experience with stone masonry and specialty finishes
  • Experience on federal, municipal, or institutional projects
  • OSHA 30hour certification
  • Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly (bricks, blocks, mortar)
  • Work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain)
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined positions for extended periods
  • Climb ladders and work from scaffolding at heights up to 40+ feet
  • Wear required PPE for extended periods
  • Reports To: Masonry Foreman
