Job description

We are currently hiring a Process Controls Supervisor in Cincinnati, OH.

Perform highly diversified duties to manage the maintenance, planning, installation startup and documentation of brewing and packaging control processes within the facility. Produce and manage controls engineering designs and modifications by identifying project objectives and issues. Research and develop controls engineering techniques. Commission, verify and validate all major and minor continuous improvement and Capex projects.

What You'll Brew:ย 

  • Manage process controls staff.ย 
  • Initiate planned preventive maintenance programs for facility electrical, instrumentation and process control equipment.ย 
  • Formulate and manage: Support brewery initiatives across all departments from a process/electrical capacity.
  • Manage and lead diagnostic work, repair and reverse engineering of a predominantly undocumented control system.ย 
  • Diagnose problems, manage the Instrumentation Technicians that replace or repair parts, detect and replace defective control modules, test and make adjustments. ย 
  • Develop and implement process improvements throughout plant to drive productivity.ย 
  • Develop, implement and manage an instrumentation maintenance and calibration program
  • Manage small group of instrumentation technicians on shift work assignments and special projects. Motivate and improve technical skills of team to successfully meet challenges of day to day management through advancing technologies. ย 
  • Daily communication with operational department regarding electrical, instrumentation and controls activities and troubleshooting
  • Identify safety issues and provide estimates and plans for corrective measuresย 
  • Apply systematic problem-solving techniques and prevention tools.ย 
  • Organize, design and manage projects by identifying short-term and long-range issues; preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources.ย 
  • Must be able to improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency.ย 

Physical Demands:

  • All production roles are required to pass a pre-employment physical exam to comply with their specific role requirement(s)
  • Certain roles may require the use of a respirator and passing the associated fit test
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, sometimes repeatedly
  • Regular walking and standing for long periods of time (up to 11 hours a day) on concrete, metal and grated surfaces
  • Responsibilities may require crouching, stepping over, crawling under, bending, twisting, climbing and reaching above head and shoulders repeatedly throughout the day
  • Responsibilities may require climbing flights of stairs, working from heights or on elevated platforms
  • Ability to wear assigned PPE (safety shoes, gloves, facemask, hearing protection and hard hat)
  • Established dexterity so you can handle materials, operate equipment and interface with computer systems with precision
  • Some roles (e.g., forklift operator) may be required to sit for a prolonged period of time and have strong peripheral vision and depth perception
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for long periods of time, climb flights of stairs, and wear eye, hearing, and head protection.ย 
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Occasionally work from elevated areas (ladders, platforms, and others as required).

Working Conditions:

  • There is frequent exposure production environments: Subject to loud and constant noise, and non-environmentally conditioned spaces which may lead to extreme hot and cold
  • Operating environment is complex and densely populated with production equipment and forklifts that necessitates high situational awareness
  • Work overtime as needed which may require 12-hour days, weekends, and holidays

What Ingredients You'll Bring:ย 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4yr Bachelor's Degree (Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience/education required)
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience/ education required.ย 
  • 5+ years' work experience in a production manufacturing environment.ย 
  • Willingness to work weekends and overtime as needed.ย 
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferably in union environment.ย 
  • Read, interpret, revise, update, and manage electrical schematics and wire diagramsย 
  • Experience and fundamental understanding of process instrumentation
  • Understand Blueprints and part drawings
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and historical trending systems (specifically Allen Bradley and Rockwell Suite).ย 
  • Proficient with network implementation and troubleshooting including fiber, CAT6 and CISCO switched networks. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, and OSHA regulations. ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Familiarity with 5S implementation. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Have knowledge and application experience with all instrumentation and discrete hardware associated with process and packaging systems. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systemsย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Automation experience (robotics, assembly, etc.)ย 
  • Additional Skills (Computer/Technical): MS OFFICE (Word and Excel), Allen Bradley Control Logix, TI505 (Workshop 505), SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware), Instrumentation tuning and calibration, Panelview/Panelmate configuration and programming preferred but not required

Level: 7M

At the Boston Beer Company and in accordance with pay transparency laws, we are open about our salary ranges. For this role, the salary range is between $82,000 and $141,000. However, it's important to note that where the person hired starts in this range is dependent on their related experience, skillset and location. Additionally, this position qualifies for a discretionary annual bonus based on company and individual performance, and certain sales roles might include a car allowance.
