About the Role

Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, is seeking a calm, skilled, and supportive Tai Chi Instructor to lead wellness programming for older adults. Tai Chi is a gentle, lowimpact practice that promotes balance, flexibility, mindfulness, and overall wellbeing—making it an ideal offering for our Senior Adults programs.

These opportunities are for onsite, inperson instruction only.

This yearround, parttime role is perfect for an instructor who is passionate about mindful movement, healthy aging, and creating a welcoming environment for participants of all experience levels.

Instructor Tai Chi duties and responsibilities include:

  • Lead Tai Chi classes tailored to senior adults, focusing on slow, controlled movement and breathwork.

  • Teach foundational forms, balance exercises, and mindful movement sequences.

  • Provide modifications and guidance to support participants with varying mobility and fitness levels.

  • Foster a calm, inclusive, and supportive class environment.

  • Ensure participant safety by monitoring movement and offering adjustments as needed.

  • Manage class setup and cleanup.

  • Maintain attendance records and complete required administrative documentation.


Instructor Tai Chi requirements include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Experience teaching Tai Chi or related mindful movement practices (e.g., Qigong).

  • Experience working with older adults preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to create a peaceful, encouraging, and accessible class environment.
