What are breakfast restaurants?

Breakfast restaurants are dining establishments that primarily serve breakfast foods, such as eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, and coffee, often during the morning hours. Some breakfast restaurants may also offer brunch or lunch menus, but their main focus is on traditional breakfast cuisine. These restaurants can range from small local diners to large chains and may offer sit-down or takeout options. Many people visit breakfast restaurants for a convenient, hearty meal to start their day or to enjoy breakfast foods at any time.

What are some common challenges faced by team members working in breakfast restaurants, and how can they be managed?

Team members in breakfast restaurants often deal with early start times, high customer volume during peak morning hours, and the need for quick service. Managing these challenges involves effective communication, strong time management, and teamwork to ensure orders are accurate and delivered promptly. Staff can benefit from pre-shift meetings to coordinate roles and responsibilities, as well as ongoing training to handle busy periods efficiently and maintain a positive guest experience.

To thrive as a Breakfast Restaurant Manager, you need strong leadership, food service knowledge, and a background in hospitality management or a related field. Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and food safety certifications (such as ServSafe) is typically required. Exceptional customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in this role. These abilities are crucial to ensuring efficient operations, satisfied guests, and a well-coordinated team in a fast-paced breakfast environment.

Type: Full-Time or Part-Time | Daytime Hours Only
About Himes Breakfast House

At Himes Breakfast House, we believe breakfast should be as warm as the people who serve it.
As the #1 rated breakfast restaurant in the Tampa Bay area, we’re known for our Southern hospitality, fresh food, and friendly team culture.
We offer daytime-only hours, weekly pay, and real opportunities for advancement for team members who love people, organization, and great food. Whether you’re a student looking for a flexible schedule or someone ready to grow in the restaurant industry, Himes Breakfast House is where your day — and your career — start bright.
Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Weekly Pay — dependable and consistent
  • Daytime Schedule — no nights, no Mondays
  • Flexible Scheduling for students or work-life balance
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance

  • Employee Meals — enjoy breakfast, our treat
  • Career Growth — training and advancement opportunities in all roles
What You’ll Do

As a Host/Cashier at Himes Breakfast House, you’re the first and last impression for every guest who walks through our doors. You’ll set the tone for the entire visit — greeting guests with energy, managing the flow of the restaurant, and handling transactions with accuracy and warmth.
Before the Shift

  • Stock the carryout station with all necessary supplies and materials.
  • Count the cash drawer to verify starting amount.
  • Ensure the host stand and waiting area are clean and welcoming.
During the Shift

  • Greet every guest with a warm smile and a “Big Hello!” as they enter.
  • Manage the waitlist efficiently, quoting accurate wait times during busy periods.
  • Answer incoming calls and handle carryout orders promptly and accurately.
  • Package to-go orders, ensuring they include condiments, napkins, and utensils.
  • Process payments and maintain accuracy in the POS system.
  • Keep the waiting area comfortable and inviting — offering beverages to guests when possible.
  • Assist servers when available (running food, delivering condiments, rolling silverware).
  • Monitor carryout ticket times to ensure timely completion.
  • Keep the carryout and host areas organized, clean, and fully stocked.
  • Thank each guest sincerely upon exit to promote return visits.
End of Shift

  • Reconcile and balance your cash drawer with a manager.
  • Sweep and clean the host and carryout areas.
  • Restock supplies and prepare the station for the next shift.
What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Prior experience as a host, cashier, or in customer service a plus — but we’ll train the right person!

  • Friendly, professional, and reliable demeanor
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine love for hospitality and teamwork
The Himes Difference

At Himes, we’re not just building restaurants — we’re building leaders. Our Hosts and Cashiers today are our Trainers, Key Hourlies, and Managers tomorrow.
If you bring the energy, positivity, and professionalism, we’ll help you build the skills for a successful career in hospitality or beyond.
If you love making people feel welcome and want your workday to end before sunset — join the Himes Breakfast House team today.
