To thrive as a Branded Content Editor, you need strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, along with a background in journalism, marketing, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and analytics platforms is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the production of high-quality, engaging content that aligns with brand objectives and resonates with target audiences.

What are some common challenges branded content editors face when balancing client expectations with editorial integrity?

Branded Content Editors often navigate the delicate balance between meeting a client's marketing objectives and maintaining the publication's editorial standards. Clear communication, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of both editorial and brand priorities are essential for success in this role.

In this critical role, you'll shape the narrative of our branded content (including short form ads, shorts, and long-form comedy videos on YouTube), blending your creative vision with our signature style. Your editing skills will bring to life content that ranges from 60-90 seconds to over an hour, engaging our diverse and dedicated audience.

Core Competencies:

  • Creative Vision & Editorial Flair: Shape raw media into engaging, well-paced stories that resonate with the audience.
  • Strong Organizational Skills & Detail Orientation: Maintain well-organized projects, manage multiple edits simultaneously, and ensure accuracy throughout the post-production process.
  • Effective Time Management: Ability to shape workback schedules, stay on timeline, and communicate any potential roadblocks.
  • Technical & Intellectual Curiosity: Stay current on editing techniques, YouTube trends, and digital content best practices to support strong audience engagement.
  • Strong & Collaborative Communicator: Partners effectively with producers, directors, and fellow creatives to incorporate feedback and achieve a shared creative vision.

    • Incorporate feedback throughout the revisions process to refine and strengthen each video.
    • Utilize Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and other tools as needed to enhance final deliverables.
    • Edit with brand safety in mind for our external partners (includes making sure that the edit does not include any additional 3rd party IP, bleeping where necessary, and flagging any concerns you see from the footage)
  • Efficient Project Management:
Complete v1 edits of 60 - 90 second ads within 1-2 days, and long form video edits (40min - 1hr) within 4-5 days, managing multiple projects through revision to ensure timely delivery.
    • Responsible for accurately communicating bandwidth and editing workback schedules for external brand deliverables.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work in synergy with directors, producers, brand partnership & marketing teams, IT and other team members to foster an environment of creativity and innovation.
    • Communicate project progress, ask clarifying questions, and flag potential challenges throughout the editing process.
    • Use tools like Frame.io, Monday.com, and Google Drive to track projects, manage feedback, and keep workflows organized.

Required Skills:

  • Mastery of Adobe Premiere, with proficiency in After Effects and Photoshop; familiarity with Monday.com, Google Drive and Frame.io.
  • Strong experience in digital file management and workflow optimization in editing environments.

Preferred Qualities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in web comedy and a profound grasp of YouTube culture.
  • A vibrant sense of humor and an eagerness to contribute to a collaborative, fun, and creative team.
  • Prior experience in a similar role, preferably within digital entertainment or comedy, is highly valued.
  • Prior experience editing branded content preferred.
