How much do brain imaging jobs pay per hour?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in brain imaging, and why are they important?
To thrive in Brain Imaging roles, candidates generally need a strong background in neuroscience, radiology, or biomedical engineering, supported by advanced degrees and experience in neuroimaging techniques. Familiarity with tools such as MRI, PET, CT scanners, and image analysis software like SPM or FSL, as well as certifications in radiologic technology, are often required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this field. These competencies are crucial for producing accurate brain images, interpreting results, and collaborating effectively with clinicians and research teams to improve patient outcomes or advance scientific understanding.
What does a brain imaging do?
Professionals in Brain Imaging are often responsible for operating imaging equipment such as MRI or CT scanners, preparing patients for scans, acquiring high-quality neuroimaging data, and analyzing images using specialized software. Collaborating closely with physicians, neuroscientists, or research teams to interpret results and ensure accurate diagnoses or research findings is also common. You may also participate in regular team meetings, maintain compliance with safety protocols, and assist in troubleshooting or maintaining imaging equipment. These tasks require technical proficiency, a detail-oriented approach, and the ability to communicate findings clearly with both colleagues and patients.
What is a brain imaging?
A Brain Imaging job involves using advanced imaging technologies, such as MRI, fMRI, PET, and CT scans, to study the structure and function of the brain. Professionals in this field may work in research, healthcare, or clinical environments, analyzing brain activity to diagnose neurological conditions or understand cognitive processes. Roles can include neuroscientists, radiologists, MRI technologists, and research scientists. These experts collaborate with medical professionals and researchers to interpret imaging results and contribute to advancements in neuroscience and medicine.

Senior management: Vice President for Research
Department: Fralin Biomedical Res. Institute
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Categories: Research / Scientific
Job Description
Virginia Tech (VT) seeks to recruit a senior or mid-career level biomedical imaging technology innovator to join the faculty at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/) for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the associate or full professor level. The research institute supports entrepreneurial activity through dedicated translational biomedical research programs, innovation and commercialization offices, and robust partnerships with biotech and clinical enterprises. Candidates with experience in technology development, patenting, commercialization, and collaborative industry partnerships are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree, have completed postdoctoral training and successfully led their own independent extramurally-funded research program as a mid-career or senior level faculty member. In addition to leading their own research program, they will develop new advanced imaging technologies for use by their laboratory and for the use of other investigators at the research institute, while also overseeing the current portfolio of imaging technologies and facilities. The specific area of the candidate's own research program may be in cancer, neuroscience and/or cardiovascular science or span these areas, providing opportunities for collaboration with other faculty at the research institute across those three primary research focus areas. The faculty member will join 44 other faculty-led teams at the FBRI. They will also have leadership and oversight responsibility for our institute's multiple cellular and molecular imaging platforms and their technical support staff.
The primary responsibility for the position is to carry out leading-edge research that makes major use of advanced optical imaging technologies while also developing new approaches to imaging that will benefit their own as well as other FBRI investigators' research programs and to collaborate with those other investigators. The candidate will be expected to maintain extramural funding for their research program and to participate in graduate teaching as well as to provide research project mentorship for graduate, medical and undergraduate students. It is expected that the candidate will participate in programmatic grant development and multi-investigator collaborations. Candidates with national recognition and/or leadership in microscopy and imaging tool development are welcomed.
The position will be located at the FBRI on Virginia Tech's health sciences and technology campus in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to the position at the FBRI, the faculty member will also have a tenured or tenure-track (as appropriate) appointment in an appropriate VT department from among multiple colleges.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing community of scholars including scientists and physician-scientists focused on next generation approaches to cancer, heart and brain research directed at having dramatic impacts on understanding, prevention, diagnoses and treatments for a wide range of disorders that impact those systems and processes.
