MistyWest is a hardware engineering consultancy that exists to create novel technologies that enable a healthier planet and bring prosperity to all humankind, with a focus primarily on hardware projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

At MistyWest, the Mechanical Engineers have the ability to conceptualize and design mechanical parts and systems. They work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and designers to complete both product development and research tasks in a variety of industries and market segments. 

This role requires experience delivering projects from drafting boards to store shelves. The candidate has seen designs go completely sideways and are wiser for it. They have interfaced with contract manufacturers and are familiar with the NPI process.

Requirements

  • Solidworks CAD experience (5+ years)
  • Lightweight mechanical design for: molded plastics, machining, sheet metal, carbon fiber, complex surfaces (fairings)
  • Electro-mechanical integration: PCB and component integration into enclosures; specifying custom cables, connectors & routing; custom battery terminal interface
  • Electronics enclosure design: thermal management, sealing, cable glands, robustness, lightweighting
  • DFM/DFA for 1000 units/year
  • Overseas manufacturing vendor communication
  • Thorough design documentation for efficient handoff to contract manufacturer
  • Wearables / soft goods / backpack design & integration [very-nice-to-have]
