Job Title: R&D Catheter Assembler – Cleanroom Medical Device Manufacturing

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling and packaging medical catheters and related sub-assemblies within an R&D environment. You will work primarily under a microscope in a cleanroom, using small hand tools and specialized equipment such as braiding, laser, and extrusion machines. The position involves short-run builds, precise documentation, visual inspection, and final packaging of catheters while following established processes and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble catheters and related sub-assemblies in an R&D setting using small hand tools and specialized equipment.
  • Perform manual assembly of small parts under a microscope with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
  • Complete short-run builds, including braiding, operating laser machines, and working on extrusion lines.
  • Build and inspect your own assemblies, ensuring all components meet quality and specification requirements.
  • Conduct visual inspections of components and finished products to identify defects or nonconformities.
  • Clean assembled parts and place them into protective bags or boxes to maintain product integrity.
  • Package assembled parts according to documented procedures and quality standards.
  • Sort and place materials or items on tables, racks, or bins to support efficient workflow.
  • Pick up, move, and sort small parts as needed to support production activities.
  • Verify raw materials and lot numbers, ensuring traceability and accuracy of materials used.
  • Follow all documented processes and work instructions to build products while meeting manufacturing goals and metrics.
  • Rotate between tasks as necessary and collaborate effectively with team members and cross-functional groups.
  • Maintain accurate records, including training records and required production or quality paperwork.
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to supervision in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3 years of experience in medical device manufacturing, specifically building catheters or operating braiding and extrusion machines.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment performing visual inspections and operating assembly equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under a microscope throughout the day for assembly and inspection tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work effectively under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks or projects.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate assembly and inspection.
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments or similar controlled environments.
  • Proven ability to follow documented processes, quality standards, and safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in medical assembly, catheter assembly, or catheter building in a regulated environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern, up-to-date, and very clean facility with a large break room and a warm, home-like atmosphere in the general office space. Work is performed primarily in a cleanroom environment where strict contamination control is required. In the cleanroom, no makeup or jewelry is permitted, and cleanroom attire is mandatory, including masks (non-respirator), gloves, hair nets, and smocks. The position involves varying amounts of microscope work, with some days requiring approximately 10% of time under the scope and other days up to 50%. The schedule is a first-shift position, running from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality procedures while using microscopes, small hand tools, and specialized equipment such as braiding, laser, and extrusion machines.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
