How you Will Power our Purpose (Job Summary)
The Y's boxing program welcomes everyone, promoting confidence, discipline, and fitness while building community bonds. Through a blend of boxing, self-defense, and martial arts, participants develop both physically and mentally. The instructor plays a key role in guiding and mentoring with values like respect and perseverance. Together, they create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)
  • Develop and implement an age-appropriate boxing and martial arts curriculum for participants.
  • Conduct engaging and challenging training sessions focused on boxing techniques, self-defense, and character development.
  • Ensure the safety of participants by enforcing proper techniques, providing adequate supervision, and maintaining a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Motivate and encourage youth to set and achieve personal goals, both inside and outside the gym.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants, parents, and staff members to support the overall success of the program.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and behavior.
  • Continuously assess and adjust the program curriculum to meet the evolving needs and interests of participants.
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise
  • Previous experience as a boxing instructor or martial arts instructor.
  • Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate a diverse group of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
  • Additional certifications in martial arts disciplines such as Tae Kwon Do or mixed martial arts are preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Learn from failure and value feedback in the effort to continuously improve.
  • Team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude and you can work well with others.
  • Listen for understanding and meaning. You speak and write effectively.
  • Build good customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
