Lead Veterinarian

Location: Belpre, Ohio 45714

Work Location: In person

About the Practice

Boxers Meds and Fixits is a companion-animal veterinary clinic in Belpre, Ohio, just outside Parkersburg, West Virginia. Our clinic operates in the same building as our sister business, Boxers Bed & Biscuits, a pet hotel and resort.

We are seeking a Lead Veterinarian with strong experience in companion-animal medicine, particularly with dogs and cats. This role offers the opportunity to lead clinical operations, maintain high standards of veterinary care, mentor team members, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

A future practice ownership opportunity may be available for the right candidate. Details will be discussed with qualified candidates during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate veterinary clinical activities while maintaining professional ethical guidelines and standards of veterinary medicine.
  • Provide comprehensive medical care for companion animals.
  • Apply knowledge of internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and diagnostic testing.
  • Use appropriate animal restraint techniques and anesthesia procedures, including general anesthesia.
  • Follow aseptic techniques during surgeries and diagnostic procedures.
  • Manage emergency medicine cases with prompt decision-making and effective treatment plans.
  • Supervise and mentor veterinary staff and support team members.
  • Support staff development in animal handling, laboratory procedures, animal husbandry, and client communication.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Uphold high standards for laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing.
  • Communicate with clients regarding patient care and treatment plans.
  • Promote continued learning and professional development within the veterinary team.

The Lead Veterinarian will have flexibility in establishing a schedule, provided the practice consistently meets client needs and maintains appropriate access to care. The same philosophy applies to routine weekend coverage.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience; 5+ years preferred.
  • Active Ohio veterinary license or eligibility for Ohio licensure required by the start date.
  • Strong experience in companion-animal medicine, particularly with dogs and cats.
  • Experience with veterinary surgery, anesthesia, and medical care.
  • Knowledge of animal restraint techniques and aseptic procedures.
  • Knowledge of laboratory diagnostics and diagnostic testing.
  • Strong understanding of clinical ethical guidelines.
  • Strong communication and client-education skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with veterinary staff and support team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with veterinary dentistry, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, critical care, oncology, or cardiology.
  • Experience with exotic or equine patients.
  • Interest in future practice ownership.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $150,000–$200,000 per year.
  • ProSal compensation may be available; details will be discussed during the interview process.
  • Health and financial: Health insurance, dental insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off
  • Flexibility and growth: Flexible schedule and continuing education budget
  • Relocation support: Relocation assistance and free temporary housing
  • Employee perks: Employee discount and free pet resort services

Apply today through iHireVeterinary to be considered for this opportunity. We look forward to learning more about your veterinary experience and leadership interests.
