What is the difference between Boxing Coaches vs Personal Trainers?

AspectBoxing CoachesPersonal Trainers
CertificationsBoxing coaching certifications, CPRPersonal training certifications, CPR
Work EnvironmentBoxing gyms, sports facilitiesGyms, fitness centers, private settings
Industry UsageSports, boxing clubsGeneral fitness, health
Primary FocusBoxing techniques, sport-specific trainingOverall fitness, weight loss, strength

Boxing Coaches specialize in training athletes in boxing techniques and sport-specific skills within boxing gyms or sports facilities. Personal Trainers focus on general fitness goals like weight management and strength training across various settings. While both roles require certifications and work in fitness environments, Boxing Coaches are more sport-specific, whereas Personal Trainers offer broader fitness services.

How do boxing coaches become coaches?

Boxing coaches typically become coaches by gaining experience as fighters or trainers, obtaining relevant certifications from boxing organizations, and developing strong coaching skills. Many start as amateur fighters or assistant trainers before progressing to full coaching roles, often working in gyms or training facilities. Continuous education and staying updated on boxing techniques are also important for career advancement.

How much money do boxing coaches make?

Boxing coaches typically earn between $25,000 and $75,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the level of athletes they train. Coaches working with professional fighters or in high-profile gyms tend to earn higher salaries, and many supplement income through private lessons or commissions from fighters' winnings.

What qualifications do you need to be a boxing coach?

Boxing coaches typically need a combination of boxing experience, relevant certifications such as a coaching or fitness certification, and knowledge of training techniques and safety protocols. Many also hold first aid certification and have a background in sports science or physical education. Experience working with different skill levels is also valuable.

Job description

About The Role

Legends Boxing Meyerland is hiring a full-time Boxing Gym Coach / Operations Lead to lead high-energy boxing classes and run gym operations in Houston, TX. This role blends expert coaching with front-line leadership - shaping member experiences, driving guest-to-member conversions, and keeping the gym running smoothly during your shift.

What You’ll Do

As an Operational Coach, you’ll deliver technical boxing instruction and own day-to-day gym operations. You’ll be the go-to person on shift: coaching, welcoming guests, managing check-ins, supporting sales, and maintaining a clean, professional facility.

  • Coach safe, energetic, and technique-focused classes that challenge and motivate members of all skill levels.
  • Build authentic relationships with members to boost retention and create a supportive community.
  • Welcome guests, conduct guided tours, follow up on leads in ClubReady and Loyalsnap, and convert visitors into long-term members.
  • Open and close the gym, manage daily operational tasks, and handle member accounts and Pro Shop sales.
  • Confidently run shifts solo—coaching while staffing the front desk, handling sales conversations, and overseeing standards when the Gym Manager is not present.
  • Contribute to social media content and represent the Legends Boxing brand with a professional, positive presence.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role shows up as standout classes, strong retention, higher guest-to-member conversions, a spotless facility, positive Google reviews, and reliable daily operations with minimal supervision.

Who You Are

You’re a coach-first leader who loves boxing, fitness, and building community. You bring prior coaching experience, sales savvy, and the confidence to manage a gym shift on your own.

  • Prior coaching experience is required.
  • At least 1 year of sales and management experience.
  • Comfortable using ClubReady and Loyalsnap or able to learn quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills and a talent for converting guests into members.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to maintain high standards of gym presentation and member service.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

Legends Boxing Meyerland is a community where technique meets energy and all skill levels are welcome. You’ll join a tight-knit team that values inclusivity, real coaching, and member relationships—where people are known by name and your leadership directly impacts growth and culture.

Compensation And Schedule

$18–$20/hour base (depending on experience), plus uncapped commission on gear package retail sales and performance-based incentives (details disclosed during interview). Full-time hours: 40–45 per week. Start date: September 1, 2026. Application deadline: August 23, 2026.

Ready To Lead The Pack?

If you’re passionate about boxing coaching, driven to grow membership and retention, and excited to run a gym like it’s your own, we want to hear from you at Legends Boxing Meyerland in Houston, TX.
