Job description

Swim Aide

Title: Swim Aid

Position Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for assisting certified YSL Aquatic Instructors during lessons. This position will work only under the supervision of a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.

Department: Aquatics

Employment Type: Part Time

Location: Charlestown YMCA

Workplace type: Onsite

Compensation: $15.50 - $17.00 / hour

Key Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities/Principal Activities:

  1. Assist aquatics instructors during swim classes.
  2. Be prepared for class. Have all equipment available and ready prior to swim class. Assist in putting away all equipment after swim classes.
  3. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.
  4. Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.
  5. Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  6. Attend mandatory monthly in-service training. Attend mandatory twice per year association trainings.
  7. May be required to work one on one with individual students during group classes.
  8. All other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education and Experience:

  • Swim Aide is for 15 years of age to 15 years and 11 months of age
  • No experience necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.
  • May be required to be in the pool for an extended period of time.
  • At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Shifts vary, but may include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
