Job description

Track Maintenance Worker – Nationwide Travel

Home Base: Frankfort, Kentucky
Travel Requirement: Nationwide travel-approximately 100%
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time | Travel Position

Turn Your Hands-On Experience into a Railroad Career

Road & Rail Services is hiring Track Maintenance Workers to join a traveling crew based out of Frankfort, Kentucky. This position supports railroad construction, repair, and maintenance projects throughout the United States.

If you have experience in construction, warehouse operations, landscaping, agriculture, equipment operation, manufacturing, or general labor, your skills may transfer well to this opportunity. Previous railroad experience is not required. We provide hands-on training for dependable candidates who are comfortable working outdoors, traveling regularly, and learning how to safely maintain railroad tracks.

This is not a warehouse position or a local, home-daily job. Work is performed outdoors at active railroad locations, and employees should expect to spend extended periods away from home.

What You'll Do

As a Track Maintenance Worker, you will help maintain and repair railroad tracks at project locations across the country. Your responsibilities may include:

Removing and replacing railroad ties

Repairing, installing, and aligning sections of track

Using hand tools, power tools, and specialized railroad equipment

Assisting with the operation of backhoes, loaders, tampers, and other machinery

Installing and repairing railroad crossings

Clearing brush, vegetation, and debris from work areas

Loading, unloading, and organizing materials and equipment

Inspecting tools and equipment before use

Supporting crew members with general railroad construction and maintenance

Following company, customer, and Federal Railroad Administration safety requirements

Keeping job sites clean, organized, and free of avoidable hazards

Completing projects safely and efficiently as part of a traveling crew

What We're Looking For

Candidates should have:

Experience in construction, warehouse, landscaping, farming, manufacturing, equipment operation, or another physically demanding field

A valid state-issued driver's license

The ability and willingness to travel nationwide

Comfort working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other changing weather conditions

The ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk, and work on uneven surfaces

Mechanical aptitude and comfort using tools

Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic

The ability to follow written and verbal safety instructions

A positive, team-oriented attitude

A willingness to learn railroad maintenance procedures

Travel and Work Environment

This is a travel-intensive position, with travel expected to be close to 100%. Employees will regularly stay away from home while assigned to projects in different states. The work is physically demanding and takes place outdoors near active railroad tracks and heavy equipment.

Candidates seeking local-only or warehouse-only work should carefully consider the travel requirements before applying.

Benefits

Road & Rail Services offers eligible full-time employees:

Medical, dental, and vision insurance

Paid holidays and vacation

Annual steel-toe boot allowance

Company-provided personal protective equipment

Hands-on railroad training and skill development

Opportunities to advance into equipment operator and leadership positions

A veteran-friendly workplace

If you are ready to travel, work outdoors, and build specialized skills in an essential industry, apply today to join Road & Rail Services as a Track Maintenance Worker.
