What does a book writer do?

A book writer, also known as an author, is responsible for creating content for books, which can include fiction, non-fiction, or other genres. They develop ideas, conduct research, outline stories, and write drafts before revising and editing their work to prepare it for publication. Book writers may work independently or with publishers, and often collaborate with editors and literary agents to bring their manuscripts to print or digital formats.

What are some common challenges book writers face when working with editors during the publishing process?

Book writers often encounter challenges such as incorporating editorial feedback while maintaining their creative vision and voice. Balancing revisions with tight deadlines, adapting to different editorial styles, and handling constructive criticism professionally are also common hurdles. Successful writers approach these challenges as collaborative opportunities, viewing editors as partners in refining and elevating the manuscript to meet publishing standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a book writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Book Writer, you need strong writing ability, creativity, research skills, and a solid grasp of grammar and storytelling techniques, often supported by a background in literature or communications. Familiarity with word processing software, editing tools, and publishing platforms is common in the field. Persistence, self-motivation, and openness to feedback help writers stand out and improve their craft. These skills are essential for producing compelling, well-structured content that resonates with readers and meets industry standards.

Many writers pursue a bachelor's degree in English, creative writing, or related fields, and consider joining writing groups or workshops for feedback. Building a publishing history or self-publishing can also help establish your career as a book writer.

How much do book writers make?

Book writers, or authors, typically earn royalties that range from 5% to 15% of the book's retail price, with income varying widely based on sales, reputation, and publishing method. Many authors supplement their income through advances, speaking engagements, or freelance writing, but earnings can range from a few hundred dollars for self-published works to millions for bestsellers.

Are you an experienced Commercial Lines insurance professional who enjoys building strong client relationships and managing complex accounts? Join our team as a Commercial Lines Account Manager, where you'll independently manage an established book of business while partnering with Producers to deliver exceptional service and customized insurance solutions.

We’re looking for someone with recent Commercial Lines P&C experience in an independent agency, brokerage, MGA, carrier, or other multi-carrier insurance environment. You should have strong coverage knowledge and be comfortable managing renewals, marketing accounts, reviewing coverage, communicating with clients and underwriters, and resolving day-to-day service needs.

A minimum of three years of recent Commercial Lines P&C experience is preferred. We also encourage candidates with at least two years of strong commercial insurance experience who are ready to take the next step into independent account management.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation

  • Ongoing professional development
  • A collaborative, team-oriented culture that values your experience and contributions
  • Access to industry-leading carriers, technology, and resources
  • Comprehensive benefits package.

Take the next step in your career with us and experience the difference of working in a company that values its people as much as its clients!

Responsibilities:
  • Manage an assigned book of Commercial Lines accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service.
  • Partner with Producers on renewal strategy, marketing, account retention, and account rounding.
  • Prepare marketing submissions, review carrier quotations, and recommend appropriate coverage solutions.
  • Coordinate renewals, endorsements, certificates, audits, and other account servicing activities.
  • Serve as the primary service contact for assigned clients, carriers, and internal team members.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in Applied Epic.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling and strengthening client relationships.
  • Stay current on carrier appetite, coverage changes, and industry trends.
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members as needed.

If you have a strong Commercial Lines foundation and are ready to manage client relationships and continue developing your insurance expertise, we’d like to hear from you.

Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of recent Commercial Lines account management experience in an independent insurance agency.

  • Property & Casualty Insurance License Required.
  • Applied Epic experience preferred.
  •  Working knowledge of Commercial Lines coverages, applications, renewals, marketing, endorsements, certificates, audits, and policy review.
  •  Experience working in an independent agency, brokerage, MGA, or other multi-carrier insurance environment.
  • Strong computer and technical skills, including agency management software experience. Applied/EPIC preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and related software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
