Our mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy through advanced nuclear technology that is scalable, efficient, and reliable. As we expand, we are seeking passionate engineers to help design the next generation of thermal and power generation systems.
Position Overview

We are looking for a Thermal Systems Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will focus on the design and analysis of heat transfer systems for advanced thermal processing and power applications. The engineer will be responsible for developing designs that optimize performance, efficiency, and safety while ensuring compliance with commercial codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities

  • Clean sheet design, model, and analysis of heat transfer systems for traditional (shell and tube) and advanced (additive manufactured geometries) heat exchangers, recuperators, and related thermal equipment.
  • Perform conjugate heat transfer (CHT) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to validate designs.
  • Develop thermodynamic and heat balance calculations to support system-level performance predictions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and controls engineers to integrate heat transfer systems into larger plant designs.
  • Support prototyping, testing, and validation of thermal systems.
  • Provide technical documentation, reports, and design packages for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop specifications and standard work requirements based on top level system objectives.
Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in thermal/heat transfer system design.
  • Strong knowledge of boilers, HRSGs, recuperators, or thermal processing equipment.
  • Proficiency in heat transfer analysis, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA/CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS, STAR-CCM+ or other).
  • Experience in power generation, thermal systems, or process industries preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, dental, vision, STD, LTD, Life/AD&D and 401(k).
  • Opportunity to pioneer advanced nuclear fuel technologies driving the next generation of clean energy.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment that fosters technical excellence and innovation.
  • Career advancement potential as AMPERA expands its fuel development and reactor manufacturing programs.
