Job description

Job Title: Boiler Operator

Job Description

The Boiler Operator safely operates and maintains steam boilers and related equipment in a food production facility, ensuring reliable steam supply, compliance with Minnesota licensing requirements, and adherence to safety and Good Manufacturing Practices. This role focuses on daily boiler operations, water treatment, pressure management, and routine maintenance to support continuous plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Run water softeners and fill and maintain soft water levels in the deaerator (D.A.) tank to support efficient boiler operation.
  • Open water lines to feed pumps and ignite boilers in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Build and maintain boiler pressure up to 125 psi while monitoring equipment performance and safety parameters.
  • Open and manage main steam headers to ensure consistent and reliable steam distribution throughout the facility.
  • Operate boilers in a safe and legal manner in full compliance with Minnesota law and all applicable licensing requirements.
  • Perform routine boiler operation tasks, including monitoring gauges, controls, and alarms, and responding promptly to any irregularities.
  • Conduct water testing and adjust treatment as needed to maintain proper water quality for boiler systems.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on boilers and related mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot boiler and mechanical issues, identify root causes, and perform or coordinate necessary repairs.
  • Complete assigned maintenance duties on boilers and associated equipment as directed.
  • Follow all safety directions and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) while performing daily tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to support continuous production and facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • Current State of Minnesota boiler operator license: 1st Class B license or 2nd Class B license with the ability to obtain a 1st Class license within three months of hire.
  • Hands-on experience with steam boilers and boiler operation in an industrial or production environment.
  • Proficiency in boiler maintenance, including routine inspections, servicing, and basic repairs.
  • Ability to perform water testing and apply appropriate water treatment practices for boiler systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and skill in troubleshooting boiler and mechanical equipment issues.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance practices for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety directions and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Ability to follow work direction accurately and consistently in a production setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.

Work Environment

Work is performed around industrial boiler and mechanical equipment, with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $68640.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

The plant shutdown varies each year based on when the holidays fall but it is always Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day is our shutdown time. President’s Day this year was our floating holiday so that is not always the same. For the medical premiums the cost does drop for the following year if they do the biometric screen in October at our on-site wellness fair. That information is listed on page 13 in the benefit guide. There is a wellness program that employees can earn anywhere from $75-$150 based on how many points they earn throughout the year and is paid out to them early January of the following year. Fitness Club reimbursement program that after 8 visits in one calendar month we reimburse $20 to help with gym membership fees and we provide a discount on fitness tracking devices (fitbit) the company will pay up to $30 on your first purchase of a fitbit whether the purchase is made through the client or if the employee purchases one on their own.client offers company paid life insurance, long term and short term disability, and 401K plans that Faribault Foods, Inc. matches %50 of employee contributions up to %6.Employees are eligible for all benefits at 60 days except 401K employees are eligible at 90 days.
