Job description

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the plant's high-pressure steam boilers, water testing, cooker operation, and record keeping. Hours are 9:45pm to 6:15am, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other appropriate duties may be assigned as required.

  • Run softeners, fill and maintain soft water in D.A. tank.
  • Open water lines to feed pumps, ignite boilers.
  • Build boiler pressure to 125 psi.
  • Open main headers.
  • Operate boilers in a safe and legal manner according to Mr. Law and licensing requirements.
  • Maintenance duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Requires a State License a current 1st Class B license or 2nd Class B license with the ability to acquire a 1st Class license within three months of hire.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or its equivalent is required to perform the duties of this position. A consistent work history is helpful as well as a positive, healthy work ethic. The employee must be able to understand and follow safety directions, Good Manufacturing Practices and work direction as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to understand work directions and observe safety rules. As part of a working team, the employee must be able to understand and follow directions. The employee will also be required to complete appropriate paperwork to the duties of the position. The employee must be able to read and comply with posted work schedules.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This employee will be required to twist and turn body while sitting.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Warehouse environment that is sometimes dark, dusty/dirty, hot/humid in summer and cold in winter. Production environment can be wet, steamy and humid. Outside weather conditions could include any temperature from very cold to very hot.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud. Hearing protection required.
