Job description

OVERVIEW:

Operate and control the sugar crystallization pans, evaporators and syrup production on a continental shift.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Achieve the required standards of quality for white and speciality sugar production.
  • Operate the pans within the constraints of the process, e.g. steam supply, tank levels and maintenance requirements
  • Manage the remelt pans to meet the required standards of sucrose extraction from the remelt syrups
  • Manufacture the syrups for yellow syrup production, speciality syrups for Liquid loads, and customer orders within specification
  • Diagnose problems in the operation using the WonderWare control system, laboratory database and independent observations. Able to then make the required decisions to resolve them to support the plant goals.ย  Multiples (6) Computer screens
  • Operate the evaporator system and interact with shift supervision, Stationary Engineers to balance steam flow
  • Start up and shut down of evaporator and vacuum pan systems during both routine and emergency stops.
  • Operate and control the white sugar crystallization pans.ย 
  • Operate and control the remelt sugar crystallization pans
  • Manufacture the syrups required for the yellow and speciality syrups for production
  • Operate and control the liquor evaporators and vapour systems

RELATIONSHIPS/INTERDEPARTMENT LIAISONS:

  • Shift Superintendent: Work with the Shift Superintendent to achieve the priorities required for the shift.
  • Hourly employees: Communicate with hourly employees when dropping strikes and planning yellows/specials.
  • Area Managers: The Sugar Boiler closely with the Crystallization Area Manager to achieve the objectives that they have for the refinery.
