Job description

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Design & Release (D&R) Engineer to develop and release automotive upper body structural components, including roof systems, pillars, quarter panels, and bodyside sheet metal. The engineer will lead product development activities from concept through production launch while ensuring safety, quality, cost, weight, and timing targets are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and release automotive sheet metal components for upper body structures.
  • Develop and review 3D CAD models using CATIA V5/V6 or 3DX.
  • Ensure designs meet vehicle safety, durability, NVH, and structural performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, CAE, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, tooling kick-off, and production launch activities.
  • Manage engineering changes and resolve design, manufacturing, and quality concerns.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Design & Release (D&R) Engineer or Structures Engineer.
  • Experience in automotive sheet metal design and product development.
  • Working knowledge of CATIA V5/V6 and/or 3DX CAD.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Ford body structures or automotive body-in-white (BIW) systems.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, DVP&R, DMAIC, DFSS, 8D, DOE, and Failure Mode Avoidance methodologies.
  • Understanding of roof crush, side impact, durability, and vehicle structural performance requirements.
