How much do body doubles get paid?

Body doubles typically earn between $100 and $500 per day, depending on the project, experience, and location. Rates can vary based on the complexity of the role and whether the work is part-time or full-time, with some earning higher fees for specialized skills or high-profile productions.

What does a body double do?

A typical day for a Body Double often begins early with hair, makeup, and wardrobe to closely match the main actor’s appearance. You may spend significant time rehearsing and then filming scenes that require your physical resemblance—such as over-the-shoulder shots, stunts, or distant views—sometimes involving long periods of waiting between takes. Collaboration is frequent with directors, cinematographers, and the main actor to ensure seamless continuity and accurate movement. Flexibility is important, as tasks can change quickly based on production needs, and professionalism is valued while maintaining strict confidentiality about the project. This dynamic environment can provide valuable experience and opportunities for advancement within the entertainment industry.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a body double?

To thrive as a Body Double, you need physical similarity to the principal actor, strong attention to detail, and the ability to precisely mimic movements and mannerisms. Familiarity with film set protocols and safety procedures is often required, and some productions may seek doubles who have basic stunt or screen acting training. Adaptability, reliability, and discretion are essential soft skills, as the work often demands patience and confidentiality. These qualities are crucial for maintaining continuity, protecting the production’s quality, and supporting lead actors in a fast-paced environment.

What is a body double?

A body double is a person who substitutes for an actor in scenes where their face is not visible, such as stunts, nude scenes, or specific body part close-ups. They are chosen based on their physical resemblance to the actor in terms of height, build, skin tone, and other defining features. Body doubles help maintain continuity and efficiency in filmmaking while allowing actors to focus on other aspects of their roles.
