Plant Operator - Wastewater Treatment

Compensation starting at $23 per hour (without prior industry experience required)
This position may offer a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500 for qualified candidates.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM

We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Plant Operator to support our wastewater treatment operations in Kansas City. This is a hands-on position working with treatment systems and mechanical equipment that help protect our water and communities.

What You'll Do
  • Operate and maintain mechanical systems including pumps, valves, fans, heat exchangers, diesel and gas engines, and compressors
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Conduct water quality testing and monitor treatment effectiveness
  • Complete daily logs, manifests, and compliance documentation accurately
  • Use tools such as rakes, shovels, hoses, pressure washers, cranes, and hoists
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
  • Assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift 55+ lbs regularly
  • At least 1 year of experience in a labor-intensive role (required)
  • 1 year of wastewater processing or plant operations experience (preferred)

Job Description:
  • Offloading and dealing with drivers. Personable and friendly but assertive when the situation calls for it.
  • Various cleaning tasks, takes initiative to clean up messes. This can involve physically easy tasks like mopping or harder tasks like shoveling.
  • Some maintenance tasks (mechanical aptitude is appreciated but not required).
  • Some advanced treatment tasks when covering absences, this will be trained
  • Ability to pilot a forklift and Bobcat, training can also be provided.
  • Work is in a foul-smelling facility treating various waste waters, a strong stomach is required sometimes.

  • Uniforms provided (Navy blue collared, long sleeve, button shirt and Chino pants).
  • Boot voucher supplied, $175 value by Red Wings.
  • Power and hand tools provided.
  • PPE Provided (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, chemical apron, various types of gloves).
