Job Responsibilities

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is seeking a HVAC Shop Supervisor with great leadership skills in the Facilities and Engineering Department.  Under the limited supervision of the Division Chief, supervises a crew of technicians in HVAC and related equipment repair operation. This role will be responsible for the following:

  • Develops, coordinates, establishes and ensures execution of HVAC Shop services and repairs
  • Utilizes computers to adjust, troubleshoot and control electronic energy management systems
  • Develops specifications and coordinates the repairs performed by vendors and contractors in the repair and maintenance of all types of HVAC, gallery and energy management systems
  • Estimates, requisitions and issues materials and equipment for job completion.
  • Ensures safety and environmental compliance with all pertinent regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Schedules work for execution and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes, standards and specifications
  • Repairs, package units, small boilers, mini split systems, furnaces, exhaust fans, PTAC units and other HVAC related equipment, including pumps.
  • Manages refrigerant management program
  • Coordinates HVAC repair and installation work with Campus HVAC repair contractors

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of completion of HVAC technical or trades school and six(6) years' experience in mechanical trades field AND at least one(1) year of supervisory experience in field/trade area.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Job requires working independently or as a team on 24 to 460 volt electrical air conditioning controls, pneumatic controls and computerized digital control systems.
  • Knowledge required in the operation and maintenance of: refrigerants industrial rotary screw, centrifugal, chilled all water systems ranging from 100 to 350 tons; hot water and steam heating systems, commercial and residential refrigerant split air conditioning systems, gas package unit heaters and heat pumps ranging from 1.5 to 120 toms; residential gas appliances; refrigeration equipment, including ice machines; and other auxiliary equipment
  •  Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, and electrical schematics and be able to demonstrate a proficiency at brazing and soldering piping and tubing.
  • Qualifications must include Refrigeration Transition and Recovery as UNIVERSAL (including EPA certification).
  • Valid SC Driver's License.
