JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:ย Boat Instructorย Department:ย Boat Rentals

Salary Range:ย $15.15ย Reports to:ย Dock Supervisor

Employment Status:ย Seasonalย FLSA Status:ย Non-Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY
Assist and teach basic maneuvers and operation of small motor-driven boats and watercraft to rental customers and guests. May assist in navigational and lake destination activities. Clean, fuel, and operate watercraft after rental return.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
โ€ข Follow safety procedures to ensure the protection of passengers, cargo, and vessels.
โ€ข Direct safety operations in emergency situations.
โ€ข Give thorough instructions related to watercraft operation and control.
โ€ข Instruct customers how to operate engine throttles and steering mechanisms to guide boats on desired courses.
โ€ข Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
โ€ข Possess the ability to react productively to other duties as reasonably assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license is preferred but not required. Reliable transportation required. Must be willing to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.


EDUCATION
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred but not required.


EXPERIENCE
Previous boating experience preferred. Ability to swim preferred.

โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in ISO/EMS awareness.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in employee orientation.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazard communication.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazardous materials response/respiratory protection.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in emergency response.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in recyclable materials.
โ€ข Knowledge or ability to be trained in blood borne pathogen awareness.
โ€ข Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
โ€ข Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
โ€ข Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

โ€ข Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The performance of stated functions and duties may occur in, but are not limited to: office settings, confined spaces such as boat hulls, public or common areas such as restaurant or retail establishment; inclement weather conditions may be a factor including rain, snow, wind, extreme temperatures. General industry levels of noise and stimuli should be expected in all settings.*Controllable working conditions (i.e. temperature, lighting) may be altered to create a more conducive working environment for staffing needs, however such accommodations shall not create an undue hardship on the Company or other staff members.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of the position may include, but are not limited to sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying and otherwise maneuvering heavy objects with or without assistance. Climbing, crouching, reaching, extending and other bodily movements in work areas such as boats, office settings, docks.


ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
It is important that the incumbent be able to communicate effectively in English including speaking, understanding, reading, and writing for the purpose of general interactions with staff, guests and customers. Additional linguistic proficiency is welcomed and encouraged, but not required for the performance of the position.
