Job description

The Director of Engineering will lead the design and development of next-generation MBG products while building a strong, engaged engineering team. This role is responsible for driving a focused, execution-oriented development organization that delivers high-quality boats to market on time and ready for production.

Maverick Boat Group is known for building top-tier fishing boats across its portfolio of brands, including Maverick, Hewes, Pathfinder, and Cobia. This role plays a key part in continuing that standard by ensuring our products reflect both strong Engineering fundamentals and a clear understanding of how customers actually use our boats on the water.

This leader will strengthen MBG’s in-house product development capability, improve how engineering partners with production, and help raise the bar on product quality, performance, and execution.

We are looking for someone who is not just a strong engineering leader, but someone who genuinely cares about the marine industry. This role requires a real connection to boats, time on the water, and an understanding of what matters to the customer.

Top Priorities

  • Lead the design and development of next-generation MBG products
  • Support production, quality, and customer service through strong engineering execution
  • Build a high-performing engineering team and culture
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead product development from concept through production launch across the MBG portfolio
  • Drive execution against defined program milestones, schedules, and deliverables
  • Balance innovation with practicality, delivering products that perform on the water and execute cleanly in production
  • Provide clear direction on product development priorities based on customer use, market awareness, and business needs
  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering team
  • Establish clear expectations, ownership, and accountability across all projects
  • Assess current team capabilities and strengthen the team where needed
  • Create an environment where engineers are engaged, challenged, and take pride in the products they deliver
  • Ensure designs are built for manufacturability, repeatability, and quality
  • Improve how engineering hands off work to production with clear documentation and stronger definition
  • Work closely with operations to ensure new products are executable without unnecessary complexity
  • Identify and drive improvements that reduce rework, improve efficiency, and elevate overall build quality
  • Implement structured product development processes including milestone tracking and review gates
  • Hold teams accountable for timelines, deliverables, and execution
  • Drive urgency and remove bottlenecks within the development pipeline
  • Maintain visibility into project status, risks, and key decisions
  • Partner with production, quality, supply chain, and customer service to support the business
  • Ensure engineering is responsive to real product issues and continuous improvement needs
