Job description

Building Automation / HVAC Controls Technician

Position Summary

Lean Synergy Solutions is seeking an experienced Building Automation / HVAC Controls Technician to support Energy Control operations at a MEDVAMC facility. This role provides operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization support for Johnson Controls Metasys Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated Building Systems Equipment (BSE). The technician will perform preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, repairs, system analysis, reporting, and energy optimization activities to ensure reliable facility performance and improved energy efficiency. Paid Johnson Controls Metasys training and certification are provided.

Key Responsibilities

Controls Operations & Maintenance:

  • Provide operations and maintenance support to Energy Control staff by responding to controls-related service calls
  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, calibration, and corrective actions for MEDVAMC BSM controls and related BSE
  • Perform preventive maintenance on energy management systems and components, including:
    • Testing of control and controlled components
    • Replacement of failed components (valves, dampers, controllers)
    • Support for both electric and pneumatic control systems
  • Perform repairs to HVAC energy management systems and related BSE using DDC systems to evaluate and correct operational issues
  • Investigate Johnson Controls Metasys systems and evaluate program applicability on a system-by-system basis

HVAC & Automation Support:

  • Complete training in automation controls and HVAC (including paid Metasys factory training when applicable)
  • Perform HVAC preventive maintenance and repairs as required
  • Provide minimal assistance with:
    • Tune-up, calibration, and maintenance of chiller plant control systems
    • HVAC control systems and associated building control technologies related to MEDVAMC BSE

System Optimization & Energy Efficiency:

  • Update and correct deficiencies within existing BMS and BSE
  • Increase facility energy efficiency through BMS maintenance and optimization
  • Provide options and alternatives for system improvements, including:
    • Equipment calibration
    • System modifications
  • Develop and program HVAC and energy optimization strategies
  • Provide recommendations to MEDVAMC regarding energy savings opportunities

Reporting & Technical Support:

  • Complete reporting for each work order request and corrective action
  • Generate HVAC energy management reports from Metasys systems and provide to the customer on a monthly basis
  • Conduct technical review sessions for MEDVAMC operational, engineering, and contract personnel on HVAC system programming as it relates to facility equipment

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Controls fields
  • 30-Hour OSHA Certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Johnson Controls Metasys factory training preferred

Location & Compensation

  • Location: Houston, TX (77030)
  • Compensation: $26 - $30 P/hr ($54,000 - $62,000 annually)
