We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

This role spans analog instrumentation, power conversion, and actuator drive circuit design - making it an excellent fit for engineers with backgrounds in analog design, power electronics, or avionics hardware development. You will join a tightly knit, collaborative team developing high-reliability, safety-critical avionics hardware used to operate rocket engines in space.

We are looking for someone who brings technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.Passion for Blue Origin's mission is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design of analog instrumentation measurement circuits that measure various environmental and combustion conditions of a rocket engine.
  • Electrical design of actuator drive circuits for solenoid valves, brushless DC motors, and electromechanical servo systems (EMA), including gate driver design, inductive load handling, and protection circuitry.
  • Interpret systems engineering and quality requirements as they apply to electrical product development.
  • Develop circuits, boards, and rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product life-cycle; including concept and requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification (power-on, functional / acceptance / qualification testing) and release to production.
  • Identify root cause failure modesusing fault tree and fishbone methodologies
  • Manage design schedules of avionics subsystem.
  • Routinely present program status and issues.
  • Identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of combined professional and/or graduate-level research experience in electronics hardware development, with at least 1 year in a full-time engineering role
  • Demonstrated technical leadershipin guiding project teams, making critical design decisions, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Direct hands-on experience with analog, digital circuit design, analysis, test, and debug.
  • Strong analog circuit fundamentals, with working knowledge of op-amp based circuits including instrumentation amplifiers, active filters, and signal conditioning - or demonstrated ability to apply analog design principles across domains
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power conversion, grounding, and general board layout principles.
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with data anomaly review and system troubleshooting in a lab or test environment.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.
  • Passion for Blue Origin's mission: Millions of people living and working in space.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (or higher) in related engineering or technical field.
  • Familiarity with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC, GaN) for power conversion applications
  • Experience with power conversion topologies (DC-DC, inverters, active rectifiers)
  • Familiarity with thermal modeling and derating analysis for electronic components in harsh environments
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB for circuit and system modeling
  • Experience with motor drive topologies, gate driver ICs, or power stage design for EMA applications
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability and radiation-tolerant flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments
  • Proven expertise crafting high-reliability, safety-critical, Class 3 board assemblies.
  • Understanding of mechanical packaging of avionics in harsh environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of EMI issues related to precision analog or high voltage design.
  • Proficiency using CAD layout tools to craft sophisticated printed circuit boards; and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • Exposure to designing safety or critically important aerospace flight hardware aligned with DO-254.
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability and radiation-tolerant flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments.
