Job description

Breeder&Pullet Blood Puller

Natchitoches Pilgrim’s is seeking a dedicated and detailed oriented Breeder & Pullet Blood Puller technician. In this role, you will be instrumental in collecting blood/fat samples from chicken for health testing, monitors flocks health and administers vaccines. You will work on-site, transporting samples to labs, weighing birds to manage feed and ensuring compliance with USDA and biosecurity regulations. You will work in a fast-paced environment focused on safety, animal welfare, and product quality while supporting continuous improvement through attention to detail and teamwork. Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with service techs to schedule farms for blood draw and fat pull
  • Sample Collection: Extract blood and fat samples from breeder hens and pullets for disease monitoring, including Salmonella and Influenza.
  • Flock Health Management: Administer vaccinations, monitor for illnesses, and perform necropsies (if trained).
  • Bird Weighing & Data Collection: Weigh birds weekly to manage feed intake and monitor growth, maintaining accurate records.
  • Transportation & Logistics: Deliver, ship, or transport blood samples to state or company laboratories for testing.
  • Biosecurity & Safety: Strict adherence to biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission; usually requires no ownership of other poultry. 
  • Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need:

  • Education:
    •  High School Diploma/GED preferred.
    • Basic understanding of animal and husbandry practices.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast- paced environment.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in farm(s) or similar agricultural environment.
    • Knowledge of avian species and their care requirements.
    • Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and practices.
    •  1 or more years of production or manufacturing environment. Poultry or food industry experience is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Must have good work ethics and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
    • Must be able to work independently w/minimal supervision.
    • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
    • Strong to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to adapt to changing condition and work under pressure
    • A proactive attitude and a commitment to quality and safety.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with no moving violation.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Must be able to withstand the weather elements
    • Must be able to physically catch and pen chickens.
  • Must not raise any poultry or birds
