This is a 12‑week internship during summer 2027.

You’ll join Coinbase as a software engineer intern and help build the next generation of crypto‑forward products and features. You’ll solve large-scale, complex technical problems at the intersection of web‑scale applications and blockchain technology, shipping real code that impacts millions of users.

During the application process, you’ll select your preferred team from the groups below. Your application will be primarily considered for your selected team in the specified location. Following the hybrid internship, any full‑time return opportunity would be remote‑first.

Product Group Teams (internship location = San Francisco):
  • Base - Scale the crypto economy by creating integrations, fiat onramps, and developer tools on Coinbase's Ethereum L2 network, connecting builders to 108M+ users and $100B+ in assets.
  • Consumer - Build the fastest way to access crypto through the Coinbase retail and wallet apps, advanced trade, dApps, and staking.
  • Developer - Help build out Coinbase Developer Platform - trusted crypto infrastructure at scale. Payments, Wallets, Trading, and Stablecoin APIs for the global financial system.
  • Institutional - Enable thousands of large financial institutions to securely custody digital assets, stake, and participate in the crypto economy.
  • Platform - Create the scalable, compliant foundational systems (Identity, FinHub, Payments, Blockchain and Infrastructure) that underpin all Coinbase products.
Core Teams (internship location = New York City):
  • Security - Build solutions for critical security, compliance, and privacy needs, including the Workforce IAM Platform and security oversight tooling.
  • Enterprise Engineering (EE) - Develop platforms that enhance customer support, internal tools and compliance through automation and customer‑first engineering.
What you’ll do:
  • Write high‑quality, well‑tested code that ships to production and directly impacts Coinbase customers.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to turn technical and product vision into delivered features.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving feedback that raises the quality bar for your team.
  • Own a defined project end‑to‑end, from scoping through implementation and launch, within your 12‑week internship.
  • Learn and apply crypto and blockchain domain concepts to real engineering problems in a production environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in daily workflows, continuously learn as tools evolve, and apply human‑in‑the‑loop practices to deliver business‑ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Programming experience in any language (academic, personal projects, or professional).
  • Demonstrated ability to break down ambiguous problems into concrete implementation steps.
  • Familiarity with at least one of: web development, mobile development, backend systems, or infrastructure.
  • Utilize generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
