How much do blockchain developer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for blockchain developer in Arkansas is $92,485.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $74,400.00 and $107,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a blockchain developer?

Blockchain Developers are professionals who design, build, and maintain decentralized applications and smart contracts using blockchain technology. They work with various blockchain platforms like Ethereum, Hyperledger, or Solana to create secure and transparent systems for industries such as finance, supply chain, and healthcare. Their responsibilities include developing protocols, writing code for smart contracts, and ensuring the security and integrity of blockchain networks.

What does a blockchain developer do?

A blockchain is a digital, public transaction record or digital ledger. People usually associate it with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, but blockchain technology can also record digital transactions with other cryptocurrencies, data, or information. Unlike other forms of finance, cryptocurrencies that rely on the blockchain are decentralized, so people can access Bitcoin and other digital currencies without going to a bank. Computer experts and cryptographers are developing additional ways to use blockchain technology, such as for trade and healthcare records.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a blockchain developer, and why are they important?

A Blockchain Developer should possess strong programming skills (such as in Solidity, JavaScript, or Python), a solid understanding of cryptography, and experience with distributed ledger technologies, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with blockchain platforms (like Ethereum or Hyperledger), smart contract development, and relevant certifications (such as Certified Blockchain Developer) are highly beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective collaboration are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies enable developers to build secure, reliable, and innovative blockchain solutions that meet complex business and technical requirements.

What are some common challenges blockchain developers face when integrating blockchain solutions with existing enterprise systems?

Blockchain Developers often encounter challenges when integrating blockchain solutions with legacy enterprise systems, such as ensuring interoperability between different technologies, managing data consistency, and addressing scalability concerns. Additionally, developers must navigate security protocols and compliance requirements unique to blockchain while collaborating closely with IT, security, and business teams. Adapting smart contracts to fit existing workflows and ensuring seamless user experiences require both technical expertise and effective communication across departments.

What is the difference between Blockchain Developer vs Blockchain Engineer?

AspectBlockchain DeveloperBlockchain Engineer

How much do blockchain developers make?

Blockchain developers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and skill level. Senior developers with expertise in smart contracts and blockchain platforms can earn higher salaries, especially in competitive markets or with specialized certifications.

What is the work of a blockchain developer?

A blockchain developer designs, develops, and maintains blockchain-based applications and smart contracts. They work with blockchain platforms like Ethereum or Hyperledger, using programming languages such as Solidity or JavaScript, and often require knowledge of cryptography and decentralized systems. Their role involves ensuring security, scalability, and functionality of blockchain solutions.

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry-standard oracle platform bringing the capital markets onchain and powering the majority of decentralized finance (DeFi). The Chainlink stack provides the essential data, interoperability, compliance, and privacy standards needed to power advanced blockchain use cases for institutional tokenized assets, lending, payments, stablecoins, and more. Since inventing decentralized oracle networks, Chainlink has enabled tens of trillions in transaction value and now secures the vast majority of DeFi.

Many of the world’s largest financial services institutions have also adopted Chainlink’s standards and infrastructure, including Swift, Euroclear, Mastercard, Fidelity International, UBS, S&P Dow Jones Indices, FTSE Russell, WisdomTree, ANZ, and top protocols such as Aave, Lido, GMX and many others. Chainlink leverages a novel fee model where offchain and onchain revenue from enterprise adoption is converted to LINK tokens and stored in a strategic Chainlink Reserve. Learn more at chain.link.

About The Role The Engineering Team

As Chainlink Labs’ engineering org scales, the DevEx team owns the infrastructure primitives that every product team builds, tests, and ships on top of. This role builds the Kubernetes-based control‑plane components and automation that power our CI/CD platform, developer environments, and build systems — not the manual operation of them. By codifying platform logic into reusable Kubernetes Operators, GitOps workflows, and automation, you will ensure engineering velocity scales safely, predictably, and efficiently as the org grows. The impact is foundational: the infrastructure you build is not constrained by any single product’s roadmap, operational toil is reduced org‑wide, and it directly determines how fast every other engineering team at Chainlink Labs can ship.

Your Impact
  • You will design and build the infrastructure primitives that define how our CI/CD platform, build systems, and developer environments scale across the entire engineering org.
  • You will help build and operate the Kubernetes-based control plane behind our CI/CD platform, including:
    • GitHub Actions self‑hosted runner infrastructure (autoscaling, isolation, cost/perf tuning)
    • GitHub Apps and GitHub‑as‑code (permissions, webhooks, org‑wide automation)
    • Secure network access for CI/CD and remote dev environments (Tailscale)
    • GitOps‑driven deployment of platform services (Flux)
    • Ephemeral/on‑demand developer environments and build systems
  • You will develop the core infrastructure components — including Kubernetes Operators and scaling automation — that product teams adopt directly, reducing bespoke per‑team CI/CD and environment tooling.
  • This is not an operational support role. You will be building the systems that define how engineering teams build, test, and deploy, shaping the reliability and scalability of the developer experience org‑wide.
Requirements
  • 6–9+ years in SRE / Platform / Infrastructure Engineering
  • Proven experience scaling Kubernetes in high‑throughput production environments
  • Deep Kubernetes expertise beyond operating clusters — internals, scheduler behavior, custom resources, and cluster‑scale failure diagnosis
  • Experience building platform infrastructure, control planes, or Kubernetes Operators (not just consuming them)
  • Strong distributed systems and production reliability experience
  • Terraform/GitOps ownership — designing and owning automation, not just running playbooks
  • GitOps workflows (Flux / ArgoCD) experience
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD platforms at scale: GitHub Actions (self‑hosted runners, workflows‑as‑code), GitHub Apps, and build systems
  • AWS/cloud infrastructure production experience
  • Proficiency in Go (strongly preferred) or another systems language
  • Track record of building infrastructure primitives rather than primarily performing support/operations — automation‑first mindset
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Tailscale or similar zero‑trust/overlay networking for CI/CD or remote dev environments
  • Experience designing SLO strategies and error‑budget usage
  • Experience improving diagnosability and observability frameworks (OpenTelemetry or similar)
  • Experience building internal developer platforms (IDP) or episodic/on‑demand dev environments
  • Experience building multi‑tenant platform infrastructure
  • Experience contributing to Kubernetes ecosystem projects
  • Experience working in high‑ambiguity environments
  • Experience with web3 concepts is a plus but not required for this role
