Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Scheduling of daily laboratory staff to ensure that the goals of the company are met.
  2. Manage staff to ensure all tissue is processed within specifications and quality is maintained.
  3. Manage staff to perform all tasks for efficient operation of the laboratory.
  4. Manage, schedule, and perform training of technicians to achieve proficiency.
  5. Perform time management of TPL staff including timesheets, PTO requests, and call pay to ensure accuracy and prompt action.
  6. Evaluate performance of team leaders, trainers, and technicians through direct observation to ensure consistency and tissue quality.
  7. Recommend promotions and raises of team leaders, trainers, and technicians.
  8. Implementation of new and revised documents and procedures.
  9. Work with trainers and team leaders to create and implement new procedures for improvement of current processes or addition of new ones.
  10. Assist in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination of TPL staff.
  11. Review tissue records, equipment monitoring records, autoclave log, cryopreservation cycles, and antibiotic intermediate documentation to assure lab compliance.
  12. Assist with investigations related to processing non-conformances, environmental actions, and complaints. Assist with complaint sample reviews as needed.
  13. Coordinate MRB meetings as needed.
  14. Assist with non-conformance verifications and tracking.
  15. Assist with coordinating staff meetings.
  16. Assist with budget activities as it relates to TPL.
  17. Perform duties of technicians as needed.
  18. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field, 5 years previous supervisory experience, 3 years tissue processing/medical device/pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing experience, or suitable combination of the above.
  2. Demonstrates leadership qualities.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks to completion.
  4. Demonstrates ability to screen, interview, and select appropriate personnel to hire.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems and develop practical solutions.
  6. Ability to make decisions quickly in stressful situations.
  7. Ability to anticipate needs and ensure they are planned for.
  8. Demonstrates desire and ability to motivate staff to achieve excellence.
  9. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Decision making responsibilities:
    • Must decide how to assign tasks in order to comply with tissue processing specifications
    • Must recognize when additional training is necessary for a technician to meet proficiency requirements.
    • Must be able to determine if equipment is functioning properly.
    • Must be able to recognize good candidates to hire as lab trainees.
  11.  Communications:
    • Must be capable of giving instruction and direction to team leaders, trainers and technicians.
    • Must be able to counsel and review employees as needed.
    • Must communicate any problems or potential problems to the lab manager and/or director.
    • Must interface well with other departments.
    • Must produce accurate written records.
