The Senior Global Technical Trainer, Digital Pathology, for Leica Biosystems is responsible for serving as the Master Trainer (MT) for DP products, including the Aperio GT 450 / GT 450 DX and associated software workflows. The MT is responsible for service training, certifying Field Service Engineers (FSEs) and Qualified Trainers (QTs) and tracking compliance, creating, maintaining, and updating service curricula, and ensuring training content remains aligned with product changes, technical service bulletins, and quality system requirements. The MT is a strong cross-functional collaborator and a system design and implementation strategist.
This position reports to the Sr. Supervisor, Technical Writing & Training, is part of the Digital Pathology (DP) Global Support and Technical Training Team, and is ONSITE at our facility in Vista, CA.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Deliver technical training-classroom, remote, and hands-on-for Field Service Engineers, Qualified Trainers, and other service or support personnel on Digital Pathology hardware, software, networking, and workflow topics.
  • Maintain training compliance by monitoring on-time completion of assigned training in the LMS and maintaining training records aligned to ISO 13485 / 21 CFR 820 requirements.
  • Develop and maintain curricula-slide decks, facilitator and participant guides, e-learning modules, job aids, competency assessments, and service manuals-keeping content synchronized with design changes, Technical Service Bulletins, and regulatory updates.
  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Product Management, Quality, Technical Publications, and Global Support Engineers, as well as field personnel, to create launch-ready service training and translate engineering updates into field-usable procedures.
  • Critically assess training systems with the goal of evolving the program to meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Manage training assets (scanners, servers, demo datasets, tools, and lab materials) to ensure equipment reliability, cybersecurity compliance, and a safe lab environment.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Education / Experience - Bachelor's in Engineering, Life Sciences, Education, or related field, or equivalent practical experience, AND 3+ years in technical training, field service, or technical support for regulated medical devices or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Training Delivery - 3+ years designing, delivering, and assessing instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on courses for complex electromechanical and software-enabled instruments, including written and practical competency assessments.
  • Technical Proficiency - Ability to configure and troubleshoot Windows-based servers, Linux-based operating systems, networking, imaging workflows (DICOM/LIS), and/or diagnostic software/log-analysis tools.
  • Regulatory Compliance - experience supporting audits, compliance projects, or controlled training documentation.
  • LMS Administration - Hands-on experience using a Learning Management System (e.g., Cornerstone, SuccessFactors) for course setup, version control, user enrollment, and compliance reporting.

Travel & Physical/Environment Requirements:
  • This position requires up to 10% travel, which may potentially include overnight stays. Travel will primarily be domestic but may occasionally be international.
  • This position requires the ability to regularly lift, move, slide, raise and/or place up to 30 lbs. unassisted.

It would be a plus if you have:
  • Advanced Degree - M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering, Biological Sciences, Education, Instructional Design, or a related technical field.
  • Product Expertise - Prior hands-on service or training experience with Leica Biosystems Digital Pathology scanners (GT 450 / GT 450 DX, VERSA, CytoVision) or comparable whole-slide imaging systems.
  • E-Learning Development - Experience creating SCORM-compliant modules in Articulate 360/Captivate and deploying them in a validated LMS.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Working knowledge of ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820 training-record requirements, evidenced by participation in audits or compliance projects.

The annual salary range for this role is $95,000.00 to $115,000.00. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
We offer comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
