Compensation Range: $88,337.60 - $119,267.20

Weld County Environmental Health seeks a candidate to supervise, administrate, and coordinate Consumer Protection programs (OWTS, childcare, schools, body art). The role includes inspections, investigations, program reporting, and staff supervision.

• Develop, promote, prioritize, and direct division goals while maintaining department objectives.
• Identify resources and instruct staff in investigation, analysis, and enforcement techniques.
• Assure enforcement of state laws and monitor pending actions.
• Engage with other jurisdictions, state agencies, community groups, and professional organizations.
• Maintain continuing education and stay technically current.
• Complete public health emergency training.
• Acquire knowledge of policies and regulations related to health department programs.
• Perform environmental surveys for zoning and land‑use requests, present cases to Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.

• Assist in hiring, training, and performance appraisal of program staff.
• Review staff work, assign priorities and schedules.
• Provide guidance, feedback, and professional development.
• Lead a team of up to four individuals.

• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to Public Health Code of Ethics.
• Use customer‑service skills to respond to community needs and promote public health image.
• Participate in policy development and technical supervision.
• Respond to public technical and regulatory questions.
• Provide input on grants and contracts.
• Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Enter data in computer programs such as Windows, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Healthspace, and Accela.

• Work effectively in a diverse team and with external agencies.
• Prioritize productivity versus relationship building.
• Participate in agency strategic planning and workgroups.
• Perform on‑call duties and occasional night or weekend work.

• Conduct inspections and investigate sanitary conditions for compliance.
• Respond to complaints related to OWTS, childcare, schools, and body‑art facilities.
• Review plans and support other county functions as capacity allows.
• Perform OWTS and biosolid inspections, complaints, and permitting.
• Present OWTS variances and biosolid permits to Board of Health.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental health, public health, or related field.
• Experience: 4 years as an environmental health specialist, with at least two years in a supervisory relevant role.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field.

• NAWT Inspector, NAWT Installer I, NAWT Installer II — each required within 180 days.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license; personal vehicle with insurance.
• Registered Environmental Health Specialist preferred.
• Subject to pre‑employment drug screening; ongoing MVR monitoring.
