How much do biorepository jobs pay per hour?
What is a biorepository?
A Biorepository job involves the management, storage, and distribution of biological samples such as tissues, blood, and DNA for research or clinical use. Professionals in this role ensure proper sample preservation, maintain accurate records, and comply with regulatory standards. They may also assist with quality control, data management, and coordinating sample requests for scientific studies.
What does a biorepository do?
In a Biorepository role, your daily tasks often include receiving, cataloging, and properly storing biological samples such as blood, tissue, or DNA, ensuring they are handled according to strict protocols. You'll monitor storage conditions, maintain accurate digital records, and conduct regular audits of inventory. Collaboration with researchers, clinicians, and laboratory staff is common, requiring clear communication regarding sample requests and processing. You may also help with quality assurance, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and industry standards. This position typically involves a blend of hands-on lab work, data entry, and teamwork within a structured laboratory environment.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a biorepository position?
To thrive in a Biorepository role, you need a strong background in biological sciences, laboratory techniques, specimen handling, and often a relevant degree such as in biology, biotechnology, or medical laboratory science. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), temperature monitoring equipment, and compliance standards like HIPAA or CAP accreditation is typically required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication are critical soft skills for maintaining accurate records and coordinating with research teams. These competencies are crucial to ensure the integrity, security, and traceability of biological samples, which supports high-quality research and clinical outcomes.
