Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of Registered Nurse. Located in Norfolk Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, evidence based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). As leading healthcare providers here at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, we require all employees to be fully vaccinated. Position Scope:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents and patients.  Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures and the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for nursing care based on the nursing process and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, report, and document the residents’/patients’ behavior and physiological status.
  • Administer medications and performs treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services, policies, and procedures.
  • Guide the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Staff with delineated privileges and Physician.
  • Responsible for demonstrating clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.
  • Report accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents both medically and psychiatrically.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS TO BE SUCCESSFUL HERE:

  1. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact authority, as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Graduation from an accredited nursing program with active licensure and registration by the Virginia Board of Nurse Examiners, as a Registered Nurse; Bachelor or Master degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
  3. Experience as a Registered Nurse, providing clinical care, generally equivalent to 1 or more years; experience in behavioral health strongly preferred.
  4. Knowledge of general addictions and psychiatric nursing process, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting crisis and behavior management strongly preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  6. Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
  7. Demonstrated working knowledge of the Joint Commission/CMS requirements, and both state and federal regulatory requirements strongly preferred.
  8. Must be able to handle multiple competing task, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.
  9. CPR certification required.
