JOB SUMMARY
Working under the direct supervision of a senior Biomedical Equipment Tech this is a training position for a Biomedical Equipment Assistant role. Incumbents must be a currently enrolled student at a UT Southwestern partner facility. This position will end after the completion of 12 to 18 months or 2,000 hours are completed whichever comes first. The Biomedical Equipment Assistant is a training/orientation position to develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, tools, and critical reasoning necessary to properly follow the institutions Medical Equipment Maintenance Plan. The Biomedical Equipment Assistant follows designated program outlined for the acceptance, maintenance, safety, performance verification, and efficiency of biomedical equipment used for patient care with supervision and guidance from experienced staff. The Assistant will practice under the direct supervision of a senior Biomedical Engineering Technologist, referencing policies, procedures, and standards that support the UT Southwestern Medical Device Maintenance Plan.

  • Education
    Not Applicable Must be actively enrolled and pursuing an Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Clinical or Electrical Engineering, or similar field, OR Applicable Military Training and experience.
JOB DUTIES
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains all clinical biomedical equipment and instrumentation used for the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, or care of patients.
  • Follows designated program outlined for the acceptance, maintenance, safety, performance verification, and efficiency of biomedical equipment used for patient care.
  • Analyzes electronic equipment for cause of failure, isolates, tests, and replaces defective parts. Utilizes computer and networking knowledge and applies that knowledge in interfacing medical systems when necessary.
  • Designs and constructs cables, adapters, and other interfacing equipment while ensuring operational safety and compliance.
  • Uses a broad spectrum of hand tools and electronic, and computerized test equipment.
  • Maintains required records and reports relative to regulatory compliance of biomedical equipment.
  • Maintains professional growth and technical expertise and knowledge through seminars, conferences, and other educational forums.
  • Demonstrates commitment to organizational Values of Excellence, Compassion, Teamwork, and Innovation.
  • Attends required meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
