General Purpose

The College of Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Biomedical Engineering Laboratory Coordinator to support undergraduate teaching, experiential learning, and research within the Biomedical Engineering program. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the successful candidate will work closely with faculty to develop and deliver innovative laboratory experiences, provide expert engineering guidance to students and researchers, and oversee the operation of undergraduate laboratories. This position serves as the bridge between faculty and technical staff, playing a critical role in enhancing hands-on learning and supporting the continued growth of the Biomedical Engineering program.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve undergraduate laboratory experiments and instructional materials for Biomedical Engineering courses.
  • Deliver laboratory instruction, mentor students, and provide advanced engineering guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and faculty.
  • Design, prototype, build, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and experimental systems.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) while supporting the effective delivery of laboratory courses.
  • Manage undergraduate laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, laboratory scheduling, safety compliance, inventories, and equipment procurement.
  • Support research activities through technical consultation, experimental design, and specialized engineering expertise, while contributing to departmental initiatives, outreach activities, and College events.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, eligibility for registration in Ontario, or equivalent engineering experience in the Biomedical Engineering field.
  • Several years of relevant professional experience in biomedical engineering, laboratory instruction, research, or engineering design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in laboratory development, instrumentation, data acquisition, signal processing, biomechanics, embedded systems, and engineering software such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, and C/C++.
  • Experience mentoring students, developing laboratory curriculum, and supporting experiential learning in an academic or research environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across faculty, staff, and student groups.
