JOB SUMMARY
Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) are salaried student employees, concurrently enrolled full-time in the Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. training program within the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, who perform research that is in their fields (or a closely related field) of study and is integral to the student's education (e.g., dissertation topic). The duties performed are under the direct supervision of faculty or research professionals. GSRs should inquire directly to their academic program leadership about GSR appointment details.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree (with major coursework in the specific are of training) or its equivalent from an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States or proof of equivalent training at a foreign university; and
    Continual enrollment and full participation in the Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. graduate program at UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Experience
    1-2 years of experience in hypothesis-driven, research-intensive, basic science environments with intellectual contributions to the project(s).

JOB DUTIES
  • Contributing to the development of research proposals and study designs.
  • Analyzing data using statistical software packages.
  • Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.
  • Collects and organizes research data for project reports.
  • Conduct literature searches and reviews.
  • Enrollment, full participation, and satisfactory progress as determined by the Graduate Program leadership to include Research Mentor, Program Faculty (Director, Dean(s), teaching faculty), and research mentor.
  • Observation: Graduate Student Researchers must be able to accurately observe demonstrations close at hand and at a distance to acquire knowledge, learn skills, and gather data. Graduate Student Researchers must possess functional use of the sense of vision.
  • Communication: Graduate Student Researchers must be able to communicate in English orally and in writing, and must be able to read and comprehend written material in English.
  • Psychomotor Skills: Graduate Student Researchers must have sufficient motor function to obtain experimental data using tactile, auditory, and visual maneuvers. Graduate Student Researchers must be able to execute motor movements to perform experiments that are reasonably required of biomedical researchers.
  • Intellectual and Cognitive Abilities: Graduate Student Researchers must be able to measure, calculate, reason, analyze, synthesize, integrate, and apply information.
  • Behavioral and Social Attributes: Graduate Student Researchers must possess the emotional and mental health required to use their intellectual abilities fully. Graduate Student Researchers must be able to tolerate physically taxing workloads and to function effectively under stress. Integrity, interest and motivation are all personal qualities that should be assessed during the interview and training processes.
  • Ethical Standards: Graduate Student Researchers must demonstrate professional demeanor and behavior, and must perform in an ethical manner in all dealings with peers, faculty, and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
