The Division of Hematology, Oncology & Transplantation (HOT) at the University of Minnesota Medical School invites applications for a medical oncologist to join our expanding GI oncology program at a pivotal moment of growth. Position Details:
Clinical Focus
The successful candidate will develop a focused clinical practice in GI malignancies including, but not limited to, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, colorectal, gastric, and esophageal cancers within a collegial solid-tumor faculty group that values both subspecialty depth and a collaborative culture. Practice will include outpatient clinic, inpatient oncology services, participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards, and telehealth, reflecting our commitment to accessible, modern oncology care across our regional patient population.
Research & Academic Focus
We offer meaningful protected research time, negotiated based on career track and research profile. Candidates are supported in developing independent clinical or translational research programs, leading investigator-initiated trials, and participating in national cooperative group studies. Education
Faculty participate in the ACGME-accredited Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, the Blood & Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapies Fellowship, and teaching opportunities for residents and medical students across the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient oncology care with a subspecialty focus in GI malignancies
Participate in multidisciplinary GI tumor boards and disease-specific clinics, including telehealth
Develop and lead clinical trials and/or translational research initiatives aligned with personal academic interests
Collaborate with Masonic Cancer Center investigators to advance GI cancer therapeutics and translational science
Mentor medical students, residents, hematology/oncology fellows, and junior faculty
Contribute to academic scholarship through publications, presentations, and national scientific engagement
Participate in institutional and cancer center initiatives that advance clinical programs and research
About the Division
The Division of Hematology, Oncology & Transplantation includes more than 50 faculty members across malignant hematology, blood and marrow transplantation, classical hematology, and solid tumor oncology. Faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for contributions in cellular therapy, immunotherapy, translational oncology, and clinical trial innovation. The division holds active NIH and American Society of Hematology training grants and maintains a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of oncology investigators.
Required Qualifications:
M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology/Oncology
Eligibility for medical license in Minnesota
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and academic medicine
Ability to obtain credentialing at all applicable clinical sites
Applicants must have the ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of an approved visa category while in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fellowship training or additional focus in gastrointestinal oncology
Clinical trial experience, including investigator-initiated research
Academic productivity demonstrated through publications, presentations, or grant activity
Interest in developing a disease-focused clinical or translational research program in GI malignancies
Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Total combined salary is anticipated to be in the range of $270,000-$465,407. Total salary is competitive with the market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians, and begins at $215,000.
