College/Department Information
The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine `Lynnยฟ Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

Job Summary
The Rasheed Lab at Augusta University is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to contribute to innovative research on the metabolic adaptations that regulate immune cell fate and function, particularly in the context of cardiovascular disease. In this role, you will take the lead on key research projects with guidance and supervision from Dr. Rasheed, applying your strong technical expertise to drive forward the lab's research objectives. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior trainees and supporting the research efforts of others in the lab.
This position is ideal for someone with strong technical skills in molecular biology, microscopy, animal models, and flow cytometry, and who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. You will have the opportunity to contribute to publishing research and supporting the lab's funding efforts.
Responsibilities
R esponsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
Manage research projects under the supervision of Dr. Rasheed, ensuring alignment with the lab's scientific goals. Implement experimental protocols in molecular biology, microscopy, animal models, and flow cytometry. Working alongside Dr. Rasheed and other lab members to analyze and interpret experimental data and troubleshoot and problem-solve to ensure successful project outcomes.
Mentor graduate students and junior trainees, helping to develop their technical skills and guide their research efforts. Collaborate with lab members to assist with their research activities, offering support in experimental execution and troubleshooting. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment where all lab members are supported in meeting research objectives.
Assist in the preparation of research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to collaborative papers and presentations at scientific meetings. Support the lab's efforts to publish research and secure funding for lab-wide projects and trainees.
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned and discussed with Dr. Rasheed.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Life or Health Sciences, Cell or Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related fields would be an asset.
Master's degree in disciplines such as Molecular Biology, Immunology, Vascular Biology, Hematology or related fields would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Knowledge of AU procurement procedures, institutional, grant, contract, state, and federal regulations.
SKILLS
Problem-solving skills and detail oriented.
Excellent interpersonal, technical, organizational, observational, written, and verbal communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to mentor and guide junior lab members.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and prioritize workload efficiently.
Ability to collaborate with a team of researchers and support the overall success of the lab.
Ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges, both independently and with support from Dr. Rasheed.
Ability and willingness to work with animal models, including animal handling, dissection, and tissue collection.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $45,400-$55,000 annually.
Pay Band: B8
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
