JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
This position works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines within Transmission Engineering. This position supports the substation design teams and our customers in construction, asset management, reliability, and throughout Transmission.
The Senior Lead Engineer position focuses on contractor oversight and technical subject matter expertise in an additional area. Contractor oversight includes developing and implementing strategy for contractor excellence, oversight of contracted portfolio of work, and serving as point of contact for contractor interface. It is expected that the Senior Lead Engineer is already a subject matter expert or has the ability to develop expertise in an additional area which may include compliance, Entergy standards, industry standards, major equipment, or significant industry engagement.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES:
  • Perform coordination and oversight for Grid and PM&C portfolios of contracted work.
  • Oversees and validates a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis and design in transmission-related areas.
  • Supports development of early stage (0-2) project development.
  • Plans and conducts independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
  • Directs and mentors junior staff and oversees the engineering work on multiple projects
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations.
  • Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline from a four-year accredited institution.
  • Degrees in Engineering Technology from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
  • Preferred: Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering Degree.

Minimum Experience:
  • Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of related experience
  • Engineer II: at least 2 - 4 years of related experience
  • Engineer III: at least 4 - 6 years of related experience
  • Engineer Sr: at least 5 years of experience in an engineering discipline with a PE, or at least 6 years of experience without a PE.
  • Engineer Sr Lead: at least 8 years of experience in an engineering discipline with a PE, or at least 10 years of experience without a PE.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of:
      • Power Systems
      • Transformers and transmission lines
      • Protective relays
      • Software or database skills
      • Substation design engineering experience.
      • Transmission and/or Substation utility experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and to enact change.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Recognized by peers (internal and external) as expert in substation design.
  • Directs and performs strategic technical activities in area of specialized expertise.
  • Mentors other engineers and technical professionals.
  • Frequently participates in and contributes to accredited industry organizations and standards committees.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.
  • Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.
