The Fire and Life Safety team responds to fire/EMS related calls, conducts building/housing inspections, conducts plan reviews for renovations and new construction, performs testing procedures per NFPA/University guidelines for building acceptance, identifies fire/life safety issues and corrective measures, provides consultation and conduct public education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Innovate: Oversee and enhance fire and life safety programs, ensuring full compliance with regulations and maintaining the highest standards of safety across campus.
  • Authority and Expertise: Serve as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for fire and life safety, guiding and influencing policy and practice.
  • Emergency Response Leadership: Manage emergency scenes using the Incident Command System (ICS), demonstrating expertise in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Program Development: Champion the development of cutting-edge fire and life safety educational programs and training, continuously seeking new opportunities to improve.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze incident reports, trends, and inspection findings to identify areas for improvement and drive excellence in safety practices.
  • Comprehensive Oversight: Ensure all inspections, safety drills, and emergency response protocols are carried out effectively across the entire campus.
  • Regulatory Excellence: Lead inspections and audits to meet state and national standards, preparing for and responding to regulatory agency evaluations.
  • Financial and Team Leadership: Oversee budget management, guide staff development, and ensure performance management standards are met.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or Master's Degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training or licensure. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively through interpersonal interaction and written communication to ensure message is understood by the recipient.
  • Ability to develop a plan for fire/life safety programs that fit the need of the campus community.
  • Ability to develop a good working relationship with building liaison's through interaction and involving the liaisons with the plan development.
  • Ability to effectively work with partners that are not actual University employees but work closely with the University in an effort to share critical fire/life safety information that effects them as well.
