Job Summary
Centro is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineer Intern to support engineering and production teams in driving manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and quality. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to assist with time studies, process improvements, equipment evaluation, layout design, and other core engineering activities. The intern will contribute to meaningful projects that support safety initiatives, cost reduction efforts, and continuous improvement across the organization.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing mechanical or industrial engineering who are eager to apply technical knowledge, learn from experienced engineers, and gain exposure to real manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, you will support full-time engineers and production staff with tasks such as:
Manufacturing Productivity & Process Improvement
  • Assist with current ongoing projects including design and fabrication
  • Participate in analyzing and enhancing manufacturing methods to reduce labor, scrap, and machine usage.
Equipment & Facility Support
  • Help design and update work cell and plant layouts.
  • Assist with the creation of tools, fixtures, and processes to improve product quality and ergonomics.
  • Participate in evaluating and justifying new equipment acquisitions through the Capital Expenditure Request (CER) process.
Quality & Safety Initiatives
  • Support the implementation of ISO 9001 Quality System procedures.
  • Participate in new project launch activities, including Critical Product Reviews and Production Launch Meetings.
  • Contribute to identifying and developing safety and ergonomic improvements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives through Centro's "Suggest to Be the Best" program and customer performance programs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support Centro's strategic initiatives related to safety, customer satisfaction, profitability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
  • Actively pursuing a degree in a field involving engineering and/or welding.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Commitment to quality, customer service, teamwork, and safety.
Preferred
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments or previous engineering project experience.
  • Previous welding experience.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Clear ability to see, hear, speak, read, and interpret technical information.
  • Ability to navigate both office and manufacturing environments (temperatures 55-100°F).
Work Environment
  • Primary work performed in an office environment with regular visits to the manufacturing floor.
  • Occasional travel to other facilities, suppliers, or conferences may be requested.
  • Work hours primarily Monday-Friday, with some flexibility based on project needs.
