What is a biomedical engineer intern?

Biomedical Engineer Interns are students or recent graduates who work temporarily in biomedical engineering roles to gain practical experience. They assist in designing, developing, and testing medical devices, equipment, or software under the supervision of experienced engineers. Interns often participate in research, data analysis, product development, and quality assurance projects. This hands-on training helps them apply their academic knowledge to real-world healthcare challenges and prepares them for future careers in biomedical engineering.

How do biomedical engineer interns typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during their internship?

Biomedical Engineer Interns often work closely with professionals from various backgrounds, such as clinicians, mechanical engineers, and software developers. This collaboration is essential for integrating engineering solutions into healthcare settings. Interns may participate in project meetings, contribute to design discussions, and assist in prototype development, all while receiving mentorship from experienced team members. These interactions provide valuable insight into real-world problem-solving and help interns develop strong communication and teamwork skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a biomedical engineer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Biomedical Engineer Intern, you need a solid background in biology, engineering principles, and mathematics, typically obtained through ongoing or completed coursework in biomedical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, data analysis tools like MATLAB, and laboratory instrumentation is often expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork set standout interns apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing to innovative healthcare solutions and succeeding in collaborative research and development environments.

Job description

Job Description:

As a Construction Scheduling Intern at Ryan, you'll work side by side with our scheduling team and gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of real, active construction projects. You'll learn how a project comes together from the macro level - overall milestones, sequencing, and strategy - down to the micro level of the daily field activities that drive the schedule. Along the way you'll build real skills in CPM scheduling, scheduling software, contracts and the standards our teams use every day. Interns who excel in this role are strong candidates for a full-time position.

Some things you can expect to do:

  • Work alongside an experienced scheduler to learn and apply Ryan's scheduling standards, tools, and process (Fundamentals, the Ryan Process, and P6).

  • Spend time on active jobsites, connecting the schedule to what's actually being built in the field.

  • Support project teams in creating, updating, and reviewing schedules, including during the proposal and preconstruction stages.

  • Help keep project schedules accurate and current by assisting with regular progress updates.

  • Assist in preparing monthly project schedule health reports and learn how scheduling data is used to monitor project performance.

  • Sit in on collaborative planning sessions with project teams, subcontractors, and owners to see how sequencing, manpower, and durations are developed against project milestones.

  • Observe "peer review" sessions on complex and high-profile projects to understand how schedules are stress-tested.

  • Help capture and organize completed project schedule data to support the Data Analytics team's continuous-improvement efforts.

  • Build a foundation in construction scheduling and stay curious about how the industry and its tools continue to evolve.

What you'll gain:

  • A complete, ground-level view of how a construction project is planned, sequenced, and delivered.

  • Direct mentorship from Ryan's scheduling team and exposure to leaders across operations and the field.

  • Practical experience with the software and methods used on real projects, not just in a classroom.

What we're looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.

  • Genuine interest in construction scheduling, planning, and project controls.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Comfortable splitting time between an office setting and active construction sites.

  • Eager to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.

Compensation:

The hourly wage is $20-$25/hour . The hourly rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Eligibility:

Position requires verification of employment to work in the U.S.

Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary

  • Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits

  • Retirement and Savings Benefits

  • Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts

  • Life Insurance

  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability

  • Educational Assistance

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Employee Assistance and Wellness Programs

  • Parenting Benefits

  • Employee Discount Programs

  • Pet insurance

  • Ryan Foundation - charitable matching funds

  • Paid Time for Volunteer Events

Disclaimer: Eligibility may vary based on factors such as role, hours worked, employment status, length of service, location, and other considerations. Detailed information will be shared with eligible candidates during the hiring process, and the official terms and conditions will be outlined in each individual offer document.
