Job description

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility for the Mechanical Engineer is to design, develop, and maintain all mechanical aspects for a family of gear manufacturing machines and automation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, development, documentation, and troubleshooting of gear manufacturing machines and automation.
  • Work with other engineering groups (Electrical Controls, Fluid Power, Software and Application Engineering) to facilitate a Systems Engineering approach to the machine or automation design.
  • Work with Proposals and Sales to understand customer specifications and applicable safety standards to develop machine cost and schedule estimates.
  • Use 3D parametric CAD software for modeling of components and systems.
  • Maintain Master BOMs for current and legacy machines.
  • Ensure unique customer specifications are incorporated into each design.
  • Review prior executions and compare/contrast to current practice.
  • Evaluate technical performance of the resultant machine.
  • Provide part specification changes (Engineering Change Order) based on design requirements.
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineering to apply the appropriate part coding and documentation to facilitate efficient machine assembly.
  • Prioritize and address Engineering issues in a timely manner from Assembly, Runoff, Field Service or Supply Chain.
  • Facilitate Design Reviews, FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and Risk Management meetings by coordinating the meeting, recording/ publishing meeting minutes, formalizing documents, and driving the completion of open action items.
  • Respond to internal and external requests for information.
  • Work in fast paced environment.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts that identify deficiencies in Mechanical Engineering and systematically develop solutions.
